painting resin
« on: 23 March 2012, 10:30:38 AM »
A friend sent me a pile of MIR Ancient casualty figures (including a pretty nice dead nellie).

I've never painted resin before. Is there any special techniques?

Thanks, donald

Make sure that the surfaces are clean & free of mold release. I paint with acrylic craft paint right on the surface. If there is any mold release on the surface the paint will bubble. Wash with dish soap & let air dry if this happens or sand the spots that bubble & repaint.

Games Workshop have a good guide for handling resin figures in PDF http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/R/resintips2.pdf

The tips work for all types of resin not just theirs lol

Please take care if sanding - wear a GOOD mask as this stuff can be damaging to health.

Thank you :)
I wrote that many many years ago but it's nice to see it regularly come up when things like this are discussed.

As a slight note, it's extremely unlikely the resin contains anything harmful, the problem is that resin becomes a very fine dust when sanded. Any fine dust can be harmful when breathed in as it is small enough to enter the lungs, same issues as working with mdf/hdf etc.
So many projects..... so little time.......
