Panzer Paras

Hi guys!

Some weeks ago, I won the West Wind/Grindhouse Games zu "Secrets of the Third Reich" writing contest (>>>click for more info<<<), and finally (well, it´s been 7 work days, so okay show, but you know how excited one gets when waiting for minis in the mail), my prize arrived, which consists of four of their "power armour Fallschirmjäger" (not their name, can´t recall that one) and a pack of "normal" paras with Panzerfausts. I painted the PA paras first, and will do the others over the weekend, I hope.

First, the variant armed with a heavy machine gun:

And the flame-thrower variant:

Really like the models, especially those support arms to steady the weapons. Until they issue the paras with SMGs, I´ll use them in a "one-man-tank" role to support squads of regular paras.

I´ve already got waking dreams of doing a "Return to Crete" scenario with those Paras battling it out with Highlanders and Aussies over the recently-discovered remains of Atlantis...

Hey, congratulations, Chris!

Nice work on the power armor. I particularly like the camo pattern on the HMG fellow and the blackening of the flammenwerfer.

The "Return to Crete" sounds like a great game as well. I think that's a fantastic use of them!

Oh sure. Everybody's in favor of saving Hitler's brain, but when you put it in the body of a Great White Shark, ooh, suddenly you've gone too far

Very nice, and congratulations on the first place! The support arms remind me of the camera rigging they used film the alien hunting (or rather hunted-by-aliens) scenes in Alien III :)

Of course, now that I think of it, setting it on the Canary Islands (like in that Blake and Mortimer comic book) would have even more possibilities - you could have Spanish Foreign Legion, left-wing guerillas as extras...

I KNEW there had to be a good reason for swapping it for Zanzibar!

Indeed, the smartgun mount from Aliens was nifty, and "now that you mention it"...

I think it looks really plausible, especially with the long, big, hot tube of the flamethrower.

Lovely work as Always Chris!

I wasn't too sure about these, but you have really brought them to life.
Excellent.

Now that you've said it, right, Aliens had those smartgun mounts. Had completely forgotten about them  What I meant was the actual filming equipment for the chase scenes in Alien 3. Something like this, only much larger. The camera protruded the cameraman a good deal, and had a counterweight at the back. He looked quite bizarre in that rig, a little like your Panzer Paras. :)

I think I'm right in saying the Aliens smart gun mounts were "steady cam" mounts.
