Working on this to use in pulp adventures:

Model is an old Testors Ryan ST-2 in 1/48th scale with added stays and a radio arial.

This is a great build, and the detailing and extra detailing requiers a bit of work, but the model really comes to life.

We are working on a lot of projects at the same time over here at my place, as usuall, but it means that you can get away from one project when it becomes a bit anoying, or when you get stuck. At the same time as Kalle is building this, I am working on a 1/48 Arado Seaplane, but will let Kalle make the areals heh.

Those seats look fairly large, though the exact scale is hard to read - will you actually be able to seat based minis in that thing?

I have that same model, not put together.
Will really look forward to see what you do with yours.

There are no actual seats in the model per se, however if you are talking about the cockpit, they are to scale, but 1/48, and hence would be a bit large for a 1/56 ~ 28mm miniature. However, you can easily convert or scratch your own actuall seats for a the pilot for instance. So, with this in mind, a seated miniature would fit in there, but not a based one.

Nice 'plane, she should be okay with pilot figures such as Copplestone; I have the Grumman Goose which looks fine with 28 mm figures, check my blog ;)

Really, really nice, Kalle. I can tell already that this is going to be a real eye catcher on the gaming board. I sort of wish I had been aware of this model rather than the Supermarine Walrus I got. Seems like the Ryan STM is a later craft than what I was aiming for, though...

Coincidence...

I'm working on a Walrus myself at the moment, modding it to be waterlined, or airborne, but I'm struggling with the landing gear mechanism, which I want to have working as well (so it can be used in the air, on land or at sea). Carrying capacity of a walrus is large enough for a small adventuring party too by the way, as opposed to the single passenger of the Ryan.

But I agree that the Ryan is a multitude more graceful... lol

Kalle: What paintscheme are you planning for this beaut?

While I appreciate that the modifying the landing gear of the Walrus may be difficult, I have not made it easy for myself eaither: mine is going to have crashed into the jungle (scenery piece). I don't know why I do these things... Figuring out what airplane intestine which will be spilling out is a *chore*.

I think we might use a white fuselage and red nose, with perhaps red details/stripes going from the nose part and back.

@ Hammers: I fear that it is a universal afliction; why can't we just settle for easy? Mine's a pretty plain model on it's own, so even though it will be totally closed, I chose to do up a detailed interior, which might only be seen through two tiny windows and the cockpit...  ::) I should post some progress pics, but I'm notoriously bad at updating such threads... :?

@ Galland: Red stripes on white might be cool indeed. Go for a bit of lightning somewhere in the middle too, and some more red detailing on the tail rudder I'd say. O'h; and plenty of weathering too of course... :)

Am I right in understanding this is more of a group effort then?

That's a great model for pulp games. If I didn't have half a dozen unfinished aircraft kits for my pulp games already, I'd be tempted to pick one up. Please post some pictures when you're done!

Hehe, Kalle is building this on his own, but we allways discuss model builds, since we sit next to each other and build them! We keep all our hobby stuff over at my place here in Stockholm, and have been doing wargaming stuff together for many, many moons (close to 20 years).
We do make stuff together quite a lot of the times, or paint each others stuff and so on. I am building an Arado at the same time, and it will propably be in the same paint scheme.
