A must have for all Conan lovers
« on: April 06, 2012, 08:05:49 PM »
Hello everyone, I recently purchased this book off of Amazon and it is fantastic! It reprints issues 1 to 11 of Marvel’s classic Conan comic book series. It is a hard cover, it is 200 pages of glorious colour and the paper is thick and glossy. It is classic Conan through and through; it even has ‘The elephant in the tower’. I would highly recommend this book to everyone.

Cheers,
 Damien

I was tempted by this but I already have the Dark Horse reprints and not sure if the Mrs would allow me 'more comics'. That said, I may try to sneak a copy of this in (I think there is a Volume II too). The Dark Horse reprints (well, colour reworkings would be more apt) are fabulous and are up to about Volume 22 or so at the moment. They are also reprinting all of the old Savage Swords too.

I just picked up a tpb of marvel's conan reprint in color. Soft cover but very satisfying.

@Little Odo, you are right about the old Savage Sword books they have reprinted them into large volumes. Personally I think the savage sword books were grittier and represented Conan better than the regular comic book did.

@Faust, these books are great inspiration for scenarios and monsters.

All Conan is good but the black and white art of the Savage Sword of Conan comics is by far the best representation of what I believe Conan and his world should look like - dark, brooding and well, savage.  The full colour painted covers were often superb too.

I bought these as a young man and still read them now.

@Damien- The sure are.  I'm also reading Conan the Barbarian for the first time.  Thoroughly enjoying it.  I'm immersing myself in All Things Fantasy as I write the Epic Heroes Fantasy supplement for Brink of Battle.

I just watched the CGI Beowulf movie and was blown away with how good it was!

I also started DM'ing for my friends the Basic & Expert sets for Original D&D.  I'm using my Epic Heroes campaign back drop to kill two goblins with one stone: I get to have the guys help develop the stories for the fluff text based on their characters' adventures; and I get to codify all of the back ground etc.
