Undercoating Ziterdes hard foam?
« on: April 29, 2012, 09:00:23 PM »
I was wondering if anyone tried a regular aerosol spraycan to undercoat the Ziterdes hard foam terrain?

Normally hard foam doesn't melt like regular foam, but I was wondering whether anyone actually tried it out?

I dont know specifically about Ziterdes but would suggest you ensure it is an acrylic spray so you are just worrying about the propellant.

I spray undercoated loads of the old Mighty Fortresses this way and yes it did affect the surface slightly but I felt it improved it and made it easier to paint up with drybrushing.

Yes. I have on a couple of their medieval houses. Took a black car primer spray absolutely fine.  :)

Oh good, that will save some time. I undercoated the previous ones by hand, but that takes forever. Good to know that can of black car primer will work.

Try spraying the underside of a piece as a test, you can use a piece of paper with a suitable hole cut in it to limit the area sprayed and reduce the damage if it doesn't go well.

I did think about doing the underside first, but that's good advice about using a piece of paper with a hole to avoid getting it everywhere.  8)
