Greek/Roman Scenery
« on: May 01, 2012, 02:28:23 PM »
I need some buildings for skirmish games with my Caesarian Romans and Spartan Hoplites. Are there any suitable crossover buildings that might fit both periods? For the Romans I am thinking legionaries versus bandits/runaway slaves and for the Hoplites post-Thermopyle skirmishes with the Persians. Grateful for any comments and suggestions!

Monolith have a good range.

Thanks for your advice!

I have tried, for months, to get hold of Steve M at Monolith. Have you had any contact with them lately?

They existed about a month ago.

I exchanged emails about a month ago.  There were some email problems though.

Yes, I had, two weeks ago, I was asking Steve for some Roman buildings, he replied very fast.

Ordering from Monolith seems to be a bit like playing Russian roulette. I few years back I placed an order for around £20/£25 worth of Darkest Africa stuff, recieved my goods in under two weeks, and had two extra pieces thrown in for free!!  However a friend of mine had placed an order for £80 worth of goods and had a nightmare getting his stuff off them, he finally did so after months of blood, sweat and tears.

Monolith do some cracking stuff. If you really want some of their stuff enough to take a chance, then I would recommend placing orders for no more than £20 a go, that way if you end up as one of the unlucky ones who has to fight to get your order from them your not looking at a £100+ order nightmare.

It probably depends on whether the stuff is "on hand" or needs to be cast, and if the latter, how much of the stuff needs to be cast. I'm pretty sure that it is not an operation with a whole crew of casting minions! I think it's just one man casting on the weekend or evenings if the RW allows.

I succcessfully received a £100 plus order a few moths ago from Monolith (very good value, what with the huge, free temple).  The secret of safe ordering from Monolith is to pay by Paypal, and cancel the payment if the package is not received within the required period (40 days?).  The castings were good and I'll (cautiously) order again.

This range also looks good, and would suit Greece and Rome:-

I really like the look of the Black Cat bases minis. They're an outstanding company to do business with by the way.

Fenryll has a few that should fit the bill:
