Nepalese stupa *10.6.12 Finished with prayer flags*
« on: 20 May 2012, 01:19:44 AM »
Had an attack of the muse and started a small stupa that will have accompanying prayer flags.

The cliff face will have a stunted tree on top which will be an anchor post for the prayer flags (along with the top of the stupa itself). I've got some rather thin coloured paper that will do for the flags themselves, there's just going to be an awful lot of them  ::) lol

cheers

Nice one JB  :-*  Going to build a Nepalese mountain for it to sit half way up? ;D

Just about finished the groundwork today. I had a look at some photos from the area and tried to get the colours right but not 100% convinced  :?

Anyway, I'll be doing the stupa top at work this week and then I can get the prayer flags on  :)

cheers

Well, I actually finished it ages ago but I've only recently got back into the groove, as it were, and got round to posting it.

I've got to think of other types of terrain that will fit with it and give a Nepalese feel but so far I'm drawing a blank  :?

Obviously there are Dzongs of all shapes and sizes but smaller is better at the moment, any ideas, sans yak, would be appreciated  :)

cheers

Lovely work, I have a guide book from when I went to Nepal, I would happily lend you, spotted and marked several ideas for you, If you PM me with your address I could pop it in the post to you, and you could return it to me at BLAM (I will also go through my photo album to see if there is anything useful).

Lovely piece, James.
Needs a yak though  ;)
Or a yurt.
Or something else beginning with Y...

I can hear the wind whistling through the flags...

Jim,
Looks great.  My only question is, shouldn't the prayer flags look a bit more ragged?

Yes, I had thought that myself and even tried a few. My reasoning is that it is a new site for the flags and therefore they are still relatively unscathed by the elements (that's also why there's only one flag string and not hundreds).

I don't actually know how long they last but I'm assuming that new ones get added all the time on new strings which is why the pictures you see have hundreds of the buggers flying  :)

(bit of a kop out as well on my part as its my first one and just wanted to try it and see)

cheers

Nice work, James! How did you stiffen the "string", to get that wind-blown effect?

An in-game effect might be that any cavalry moving along the road must dismount, lest they get "clothes-lined" and thereby break the string and offend the locals!  ;)

Hence any uhlans in the area would be alerted to this danger with cries of "Achtung stupa!"

(My arms are already in my coat)

Is it guarded by a Stupa Trupa?  lol

Shouldn't all bunting be red, white and blue at the moment?  8)
