28mm Norwegians for 1940?
« on: 02 February 2008, 09:13:36 PM »
Can anyone  tell me if anyone makes Norwegians for WWII? Or suggest other appropriate figures?

I have read that Peter Pig WWI Austrians make good Norwegians, but I am afraid they would look to small with 28mm Germans and Allies

Would WWI Austrians from Brigade or Renegade work?

Tricky. Neither Finns nor Austrians really work, IMO.

I'm at the crossroads here with this one. I can't seem to find anything around suitable.

Might need to start a desirable list and hopefully some designers will see this and maybe with a wave of their magic fingers................

It would be nice though to cover these smaller countries :)
Best wishes,
Helen

The Norwegians held out longer than many others in 1940 and the resistance was was quite succesful. True; Vidkun Quisling gave name to a certain type of toady but I certainly think our neighbours deserve a range of miniatures.

That's the first time I ever heard a Swede say something good about Norway.

I have not tried it yet but it is on the wish list.  This campaign offers some interesting skirmish/small unit game possibilities.  There is also an interesting mix of forces/units.

This is a project on my possible list (after the WW1, Russo-Polish, IWI, SCW and Winter War ones I'm currently working on) but I've been struggling to find out which figures might be of use.  I'm always keen to get double duty out of any figures wherever possible and am thinking of expanding my early WW2 project, would Crusader Brits be useable but then if there aren't any suitable sources for Norwegians then is it worth thinking about?

Well most French troops are depicted in greatcoats so that shouldn't be a problem. The British ranges I am aware of are usually just in battledress and I'm not sure if any have the respirator bag on the chest (ready position) as per regulation in 1940.

Having said that Britain has a long tradition of sending off troops to war ill-equipped and I've seen photos of British troops in just Battledress with snow on the ground in Norway.

You might be able to pass off 15mm Austrians as 28mm Norwegian 'Trolls' though  :D
