Don Armando's Tale part 3: In the Still of the Night
« on: May 25, 2012, 12:49:19 PM »
Part 3 of our ongoing campaign about Don Armando the 17th century womanizer.

So naturally Don Armando's attempts at calming the vicar were in vain... He had to surrender himself to the guardists and was temporarily locked away in a small tower not far from the king's castle, while the diplomacy was sorting out how the king could be fully erected by Don Armando and the cardinal could get a hold of Armando to investigate all kinds of matters a former servant of the king would be able to give information about.

Arthos who'd stood by Don Armando chose not to believe that the guy had been anything but pious in the church. In fact Arthos was convinced that the whole thing was nothing but a set up from the Cardinal to stigmatize Armando and the local girl was probably paid in riches to give her story.

Thus Arthos went back to his 3 brothers Darthos, Pathos and Aramthos and convinced them all that there was a splendid man being held unjustly by the cardinal's guard. The swore to give Armando full erection and vindication.

Scenario:
In the middle of the night the musketeers want to try and get into the tower, unlock Armando's cell and get back out again.. but as usual the encounter markers were there to apply a little twist of fate.

Initially the guardists are not acting, as they can only see 6'' and are not very clever. If however a lot of noise is generated they will react.

I've marked things that were the result of an encounter marker with an [E] just so you can see what's going on.

Arthos, Pathos, Darthos and Aramthos arrived on scene! Carrying a heavy ladder in case nothing else would get them on the wall.

Aramthos quickly decided to try and make a feint by throwing rocks in the opposite direction of Arthos, Darthos and Pathos

Don Armando was allowed to go on top of his cell for a breath of fresh night air [E] and by the luck he noticed that his rescuers were en route.

Arthos and Pathos took the ladder and attempted to erect it against the wall.

Meanwhile Darthos spotted a huge tree leaning almost over the ramparts of the wall! He would attempt to climb to the top and drop from there.

Over the past few weeks while Armando had been in detention the king's wife - the Queen - had been coming to him every evening to pray with Armando let him try to repent his sins with her.
This evening was of course no different and the Queen approached his cell oblivious to the rescuers on the ground. [E]

But Aramthos had been quite lucky in drawing attention to himself and the guardists on the wall started to fire their pistols at him!

Arthos and Pathos started climbing the ladder they'd placed.

And Darthos had climbed the big tree and and was ready to make a jump for it.

Unfortunately one of the guardists spotted him and fired his pistol at him... hitting nothing!

[/img]
Darthos decided to try and land right on the guardist

And he succeded.. knocking the guardist of the wall, landing, breaking his leg!

Startled by the action the other guardist was completely unaware of Arthos who sprang at him from the top of the ladder.

Next he broke through the door to Armando's cell only to see... what?! Could that be! Was he fondling the Queen's bosom? [E]

This would need some explaining. And after several attempts and almost 15 hero points spent (points you get in gloire to add or subtract from your die rolls or reroll them completely) Don Armando had finally come up with an explanation that made the Queen's lack of complete dressing and his apparent stumbling hands first on her breasts seem to make sense in a strictly non-sexual context.

Although Arthos had had a moment of doubt the entry of two guardists made him forget it for the moment. Heavy fencing was on and eventually a guardist knocked Arthos out of the door.

Darthos and Pathos were busy taking shots from the rest of the guardists and were about ready to make a run for it.

Darthos found that going back the way he came up was the most convenient.

And after despatching the guardists in his cell Armando quickly gave the queen his goodbye and raced down the ladder followed closely by Arthos.

Armando was free at last! The unapproving eyes of Arthos did not go away though. Armando feared that having been rescued might have put just his renown in danger but even his life!

Man, I dont play this period, but seeing your AARs make wish I do!

Thank you for a fast paced, action filled AAR.

Best wishes.
I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

A scene in an inn or perhaps set in a winemaking shop, with women mashing the grapes and alot of wine around... ;)

Funny you should suggest that. I just ordered a tavern set from Frontline Wargaming (along with some Klingons, a Jesus figure and a selection of Khanate troops for Ion Age... but I'm having difficulties fitting them meaningfully into the story at present).  ;)

Dr. The Viking,

Here is some inspiration for you. This is a tavern brawl that gets run annually at a regional convention by Steve Winter:
