The question was from which Lovecraft story they are taken from. I guess they don't appear in any story.

By the way, that 2nd mini is from Metal Magics "Dunwich Detectives" line.

"Uh, I better look in the manual... This book must be out of date. I don't see "Prussia", "Siam" or "autogyro"...

Never named as such I believe, but they are the critters that play the insane flute music for Azathoth, the blind idiot Chaos/God/Old One at the center of the universe. Mentioned frequently, but no "official" title...

Accourding to one of my ancient tomes:

Servitors of the outer gods
Greater Servitor Race

"Toad-like creatures which seemed constantly to be changing shape and appearance, and from whom emanated, by some means i could not distinguish, a ghastly ululation, a piping."
August Derleth "The lurker at the thershold"

I am not sure, but i think the servitors are mentioned in one story of Lovecraft, too. But i couldnīt find it. According to my CoC RPG rule book the servitors can be of many shapes. Some are toadlike while some look more like squids. They play flute for their masters and this strange sound can drive a man insane. Sometimes when a cult preforms a ritual the Old Ones send a servitor to bless the cultists with their strange music.

BTW really nice painting.
Arkham, Dunwich; Arkham, Dunwich -
filled with haunting fears
Neighbors who hide up in the attics
inbreeding happily for years...

that makes sense. it also explains what they're holding in their tentacles.

I remember, as a player, stumbling upon one of those flute-playing servitors in The Secret of Castronegro.I might be wrong of course; maybe it was just inserted by the keeper, but otherwise you will find this module in Cthulhu Classics aswell as The Cthulhu Companion.

The adventure itself is about de-evolution and warlocks in New Mexico.

The official story is "The Festival", I guess. A young man is coming back to the town of his ancestors and is invited to an old ritual deep under ground. In an lightless cave there is playin an unholy flute .... you know the rest

There are many stories with many types of beings...
I can Look it up, but I am thinking they are from "The silver Key" or another story from original book that was published in. They do indeed look like the flute players in another form though.

I have all of his work except the 2 that only appeard in the magazine.

I guess it is time to re-read them!!!

Castonegro was the last CoC adventure I played with my detective, Steve T Buckner. He ended up his life in a asylium drawing toad like things with tentacles...

I don't know anything about the first one, but it may be Rafm as they very often base their CoC-minis on some kind of terrain.

The second one is a servitor from METAL MAGIC. Underneath the round base it's signd HP JO and a year, but I can't remember when I did it. Did too many minis in all those years.... :?

Btw the novelties that EM-4 is bringing out now are from the same range with Byakhees and others....
