Converting is easy and pleasurable.  Painting, now that's going to take a while.
You, sir, are not allowed to attempt a takeover of the solar system until your octopus sobers up.

I can only agree with that statement.
Very much so!

Here's a test model - just basecoated and inked and the decal added - I don't want to burn out painting this army.

...I didn't even paint the eyes.

The armor and helmet has since changed from brass to silvered brass, but you get the idea.

They do look smashing Froggy!

Just a little thing, in the close up of the the guy, it looks like the transfer is on upside down... I'd swear that's supposed to say 'LEG VIC'. Might not be noticable 'in the flesh' so to speak of course.

It is upside down.  It was an accident, but I'm leaving it there.

Here is a WIP shot of their artillery - a battery of Scorpion catapults.

Here are the cavalry and Scorpion battery.  I'd say the army is definitely playable now.

I made a custom clockwork Aquila...

This will be painted when I have a figure to put it on.

The clockwork Aquila is very cool.

So is the rest of the army.   :D

Argh!

After looking carefully at the Signifer model and the Aquila I made, the Aquila is waaay out of scale - the staff is as big around as the bearer's thigh, and the wingspan is the same as the model's height.

My attempts to make a smaller clockwork Aquila have so far met with failure, so now I am left with trying to salvage this one.

Some ideas I had, and I would like to hear others - I want this to remain plausible given certain starting points, even if they're fighting in 188-- with clockwork pilia:

--Add two carry poles to it like the Ark of the Covenant, and model two Aquilifers to carry them.
--Have it as a planted standard, remaining stationary during the battle.
--Somehow make it look less out of scale through creative basework, forced perspective, whatever.

What do you think?
