Kool, so were is this supposed to take place? And when?

I believe it takes place in Taiwan in the the 1920's and 1930's.

Japan took control of Taiwan in 1895 (if I remember correctly).  The incident in the film looks to be about the final uprising by the Taiwanese native population in 1930. Japan fought battles on Taiwan in 1873 and small engagements even earlier but had to withdraw each time until 1895.

This would make for good gaming material.

A more than decent film. Beautiful and lots of exotic appeal. While there are suitable Japanese for a skirmish game I am not sure what one could use for Seediq. Eureka Dayaks?

Just watched it. The whole movie is on youtube with english subs. Great action scenes but 4 hours is a looooong movie. No problem to find suitable Japanese but what can be used for Seediq Bale? Perry Koreans, Boxers or  ???
