An old friend reconnected last week and reunited me with the Airfix Napoleonic armies I had painted as a kid.

Oh how that takes me back!
We also fielded horrors such as ACW Union with slices of sprue as French shakos, and Airfix Guards Colour Party painted as Old Guard.
We had to carve our own dice too.

Wonderful. Great memories for those of us old enough to have shared that experience.

Sadly so many gamers now wonder why we bothered with the conversions...."why didn't we just buy the right figures anyway?"

That bought back some happy memories, especially the converted ACW figures. My first Colonial army was Airfix, with WWI Germans as British line, and Waterloo Highlanders with German heads as Colonial Highlanders. Hordes of Airfix arabs supplied the enemy.

Also good to read that this put you back in touch with an old friend. Top stuff, thanks for posting.

I was always fighting the Boer War with WW1 Germans as Brits vs. ACW Rebs as the Boers. Never had enough of them to try head swaps. And never got my hands on any Foreign Legion or Arabs at all! 

But I did have the Foreign Legion fort and had much fun with that (usually fought over by knights and Robin Hood!).
