« on: August 06, 2012, 09:37:03 AM »
On the RMWeb Forum a discussion on armoured trains of WW2 has unearthed some photos of WW1 era armoured trains in Iraq. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/59799-armoured-trains-again/

Scroll to the bottom of the page to see them.

Get hold of a copy of David Fletcher's War Cars and you can see photos of Austin armoured cars that were converted to run on rails in Mesopotamia. A similar thing was done in India using Commers.

The bursar at my school was a former Wing Commander who served in the ME in the immediate post war period and he used to tell stories about loading captured terrorists of various stripes, Stern Gangers and various Araba nationalists etc on the first car on troop trains, to discourage their compatriots from blowing up the trains. Ripping Yarns for third form boys.
