Askari
« on: 10 August 2012, 04:16:43 PM »
I really like the rules, as they cover a wide area (if you look at the colonial supplement too), ... not keen on machine guns being part of a unit tho ..

Looking at the colonial rules, I was wanting to try them using Askari and African tribes (Take your pick, but I've some Ngoni painted, no doubt I will need more though). Not sure if anyone else has done that? Any thoughts on stats/army lists?

It might be that it doesn't suit a smaller game? thoughts?

I don't know what I did with the stats, but I'll see if I can dig them out for you. I think it can suit a smaller game (had two very enjoyable T&T colonial games at the Tactica convention in Hamburg last year, and they were both relatively small). But it's tricky to get the balance right. Both times we played the scenario in the link it was very one-sided in favour of the natives, though there were key decision points where things could have turned out very differently.

This scenario was more what you might expect...

...a little bit one-sided in favour of the colonialists, as it was easier for them to bring their fire-power advantage to bear and they weren't mobbed so quickly.
