Yes, our instruction was always to tape the ring down. Took longer to prepare but much safer in scrub/jungle. 

You know what CJ, I was thinking the same thing, not to forget that the pins are all hanging loose. Just asking to get snagged on a branch.

We did the same thing. I think is pretty much standard sop in most units now.
