And here I saw the thread title and immediately thought this was about Jovian Chronicles (one of my favourite miniature games) :)

Also, I must be ignorant, because I don't know who this (most finely painted) miniature is supposed to be. Some 70s movie character, or something?

I believe it is an old Citadel figure of Jerry Cornelius, a character from a series of Michael Moorcock novels.

Ah, I see. I have been meaning to read Moorcock someday (although I have been listening to a lot of Hawkwind lately... Moorcock had something to do with them, didn't he?)

He sure did, and they he.

One that springs to mind is "Chronicle of the Black Sword" which is an Elric-themed concept album.

You edited out your mention of "Needle Gun" just as I was about to point out I love that song :)

So that is the very weapon of the song in the figures hand, eh? "It's gonna make you run! Needle gun, needle gun!"

Yes, sorry about that. I really like it too. I edited it out as I wasn't sure of my facts regarding its connection to JC. I haven't actually read any of the Cornelius books, you see.

It's certainly not about Elric, of that much I am certain.

Some of Moorcock is great, but Elric didn't really do it for me. Very basic hack and slash Conan sort of stuff, but with a weedy goth-emo type doing it instead of a big muscle-man barbarian. Entertaining enough, but I had to be in the mood for it. And that mood departed when I said goodbye to my teens, never to return. At least so far. Did used to enjoy the Elric role-playing game, though.

I think my favourites are "Behold the Man" about a time-traveller who travels to the time of Jesus, desperate to know if there is any truth in the stories of him; and there were some of the Eternal Champion ones I really liked, but I forget what they were called.

  My favourite Moorcock book was The Land Leviathan - very steam-punk with lots of wierd Victoriana.

Very Nice!
I've got that mini somewhere ( along with the Eternal Champion boxed set). If I remember rightly I put a rather flamboyant hat on mine and used him as a Time Lord in a Dr Who campaign.
