Anybody else catch the new toy coming from Dixon?

http://www.dixonminiatures.co.uk/showsandnews.asp

Looks a lot more prototypical than Redoubt's.  Don't expect it to be cheap but it's definitely going on my 'think up an excuse to buy it' list!

Cheers,
Mike

I have a whole train from Toys r us from $29 Train, tender 2 passenger cars, freight car and caboose with track.  It looks very nice with my Black scorpion figures

That's great, if you're gaming.  I need an engine for a diorama so a scale one would be excellent!

I assume it will match their 28 mm figures, so 1/56 or 1/60 or thereabouts.

It will probably end up being cheaper than the Toys r' us one for someone in scandinavia, ,, postage is a real killer on those and  toys overall are more expensive here..

certainly on my watchlist

Just got a quote from Baxter Key at Wargamesminis.com.  He's expecting it to be about $180 US, with future cars running about $85+.  Not exactly chickenfeed! It is metal and resin, though.  I'm think I'm going to wait until I know more about it before making a decision.

Anybody seen this 'in the flesh' yet? They've got some pictures on the Dixon site but they're not very impressive.  I hope they're of the prototype because the wheels of the front truck look fugly!  :-[ The main drivers look impressive, though.

Hi, long time lurker - first time poster.

I just want to say, I have nothing to do with the company that sells these trains - just passing on a tip ;)

I read a lot about the toy trains from the states, but they would be pricey to buy in the UK.  I got a toy train off UK ebay for about 12 pounds (shipped), a good scale for 25-28mm:

http://search.stores.ebay.co.uk/Mozzzie-Products-Nostalgia-For-You_western_W0QQfciZ12QQfclZ4QQfsnZMozzzieQ20ProductsQ2eNostalgiaQ20ForQ20YouQQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQfsubZQ2d999QQsaselZ45802787QQsofpZ0

It's a nicely detailed model (good rivets), but needed a bit of work to make it game worthy.  For a start, each carriage was a solid primary colour (bright red, green, yellow, etc), all wheels were bright red, and some detail was lacking.  I added planking, Dremeled the windows out, added better coal, detail on running gear, ladders etc.  Then primed in black and painted it up to what you see in the pics below.

I wish I had a photo to show the before state - but it took about a week's worth of evenings to finish it.

The minis are from various manufacturers - Call of Cthulhu scientists, Old Glory cowboy, Alpha Forge zombie, can't remember the name of the robot company, but they are ace :)

It also came with a livestock carriage (open topped with slatted sides) and a tanker - I made the tanker into a flatbed, so that I can put anything on it (including the tanker I removed).

You also get a fair bit of track - straights, many curves, some junctions and a crossroads).

Anyway, just a tip: I will reiterate - I have NOTHING to do with the seller - just passing on a tip.

Do they still sell that train and who is the manufacturer/what is name of train?

I have been looking for these trains at Toys R Us to no avail. . . mine only seems to carry the modern train sets  :?

Okay, who painted this?  :-[  What did they use, a roller? They expect to sell it with this kind of finish? It already has enough going against it with a fairly hefty price and now they give it an amateur paint job? Give me a break! At least they seem to have fixed the wheels on the front bogie.

Wow harsh!  I don't think its all that bad maybe the shine needs to be dulled a bit but the  paint job looks OK to me

I gotta agree with Archangel1, this is an unflattering paint job. Too glossy I guess, it reminds me of old 1940's tintype model trains.
