28mm IWI Farmhouses?
« on: 03 October 2012, 12:33:10 AM »
Does anyone know of any makers or retailers for 28mm farmhouses suitable for IWI. Stone or stucco finish, no preference.

After a bit of pondering, I'm guessing that "IWI" stands for "Irish War of Independence".  Is that right?

Was there anything distinctive about Irish farmhouses at this time?  If they used externally-hinged shutters, then WW2 Northern French ranges might have something.
Back from the dead, almost.

McYellowBelly does some nice pieces that I think would work for remote stuff. Does he trade under CooksModels?

Scheltrum miniatures Scottish Cottages from their border Reivers range might be useful. They look pretty similar to some of the cottages I saw at a folk museum in Ireland.

For something with this sort of wall finish

Grand Manner has a nice crofter's cottage - but it has a slate roof.

Most of the vintage photos I could find looked more like this - single storey, stucco walls, thatched roof.

That's trickier.  There may be suitably sized buildings from the English Civil War/Thirty Years War ranges of Grand Manner, PMC, 4Ground and so on, but you'd have to cover the visible timber frames.

Buy some of the Warbases building blanks, use teddy bear fur or a flannel for the thatch and textured plasticard or stucco mix for the walls.

Are you setting your games in any particular county?
That could help the lads narrow down the look of buildings you will need.

Houses like this aren't uncommon down the country.

They're a pretty simple affair, look like a lot of farmhouses across the continent and are easily scratchbuilt (if you are so inclined).

Don't be put off using a few cottages with slate either.  ;)

I did an Irish farmhouse, but they all sold.
Not even got one for myself!
Was planning to do more, but real life got in the way!

Some excellent help guys. I will be searching through the links. I have no set style in mind, just something that is realistic to Ireland. They will not be for any particular campaign, just usable for my figures that are currently on the paint bench.

McYellowBelly, perhaps if you posted a thread specifically to gauge interest, you could be enticed into casting another run!  ;)

Could do, but casting was outsourced, and the caster no longer casts afaik
If I could get a good quality caster on board who isn't expensive I could be tempted
Also got more ideas for buildings too  ;)

Thanks for pointing out the ebob range.  The website says they are cast in the US.  Any idea who makes them in the US?

I did some Google-Fu and you appear to be spot on. Being here in the States, that opens up my options on getting ahold of some. I really need to build a web-links file folder with terrain manufacturers and retailers. Hmmmm.
