Would they be suitable for, say, Cameroon to?

Very interesting! I want to expand my small squad of French Marines (Infanterie Coloniale) of the same period, who had almost the same uniforms.
(Yes I know, as I write this, someone will soon point some precise differences to me, but on the whole they looked almost the same - unpainted).

Would they be suitable for, say, Cameroon to?
I don't think they would fit in the Mexico campaign in the 1860s (Napoleon III) it was 40 or 50 years before; different uniforms, different weapons.

I assumed he meant Cameroon the country, rather than Camarón/Camerone the Mexican battle, that is to say German Kamerun 1914-16. You never quite know with Hammers.

The Legion weren't involved to my knowledge but I have a photo of some officers of the Tirailleurs Sénégalais, and they are dressed in a very similar manner to those fellows in the sun helmets.

Yes, little enigmatic me... But you are right, I am in fact thinking of Dahomey. So, will these be suitable for that region?

Ah. Dahomey. Not Cameroon at all, then? He does this. This is what he does...   ;D

Cameroon, Dahomey: Not the same place. Not the same war. I assume you are interesting in the one with the bare-titted amazons rather than the wurst-guttling Germans? That would be Dahomey.

I can't pretend to be an expert, but those fellas in the sun helmets would be close enough for most people. However, the Osprey book would appear to show the obsolete 1874 Gras being used by the Legion in Dahomey, rather than the Lebel rifle these chaps have. I don't know enough about the subject to really say. The Dixon Dahomey figures seem to have the Lebel. Which is correct?

AAaah thank you :?

So he wrote Cameroon, which is the English name of Cameroun (in French), because he really meant Dahomey. And I believed that he had wanted to write Camerone, because that's a name always associated with the Legion.
LAF is wonderful! :D

Cameroon/Cameroun/Dahomey/Camerone, call it what you like, those fellas holding the mules/donkeys/asses or whatever are bloody gorgeous!

Please keep posting new stuff to keep prodding me with what I am missing.  ;)

And so I shall : next in line are some Senegalese tirailleurs. Don't think these figures are available for sale yet, but they should be soon according to the North Star FB page.

Aaaaah! OoOOOh! :o :)

I wasn't expecting them, but they are coming just when I shall need them!

(Actually... I needed them some years ago, a project not finished by lack of opponent miniatures for French West Africa)

What next?

Warriors and civilians from the "Western Sudan" tribes (Bambaras, Tukulors, etc) of the same period, would be a dream... o_o ::)

Hi Guys,

Can anyone recommend a set of rules to use with these figures?

I have The Sword and the Flame rules but am open to suggestions.

Cheers

Andy

french artillery never wore great coats in africa, they used to be dressed wih a kind of dark blue shell jacket, or khaky drill jacket like FFL.
