I have had this lying dormant for some years. I need some encouragement to restart work on it. The idea was the "gun" shoots Greek Fire. Figures are 25mm WH plastics.

This really looks promising!
Perhaps you could add some simple rigging in order to make the sails look like they are catching wind? The ship will look much more impressive that way. After you have painted it, of course.
For the deck you could simply use laminate and scribe some lines into it to simulate the planks. Just a quick wash with blackish brown and you are done.

Man, just start painting the thing already!

Rigging and lots of deck clutter will look great but I'm sure you've got it all planned out
