28mm Modern USMC
« on: November 08, 2012, 09:01:33 PM »
Some modern Marines from Eureka Miniatures...

The entire force (so far...).

Marine Force Recon team.

Squad Leader and Radio Operator.

Fire Team One Alpha

Fire Team One Bravo

Fire TEam One Charlie

Sniper!

Another Sniper! Not from Eureka Miniatures - like the others. This chap is a  spare Assault Group SAS sniper that I've painted in MARPAT to join this force.

I like those.  Your color choices are really good and the cammo faces are great.

Shouldn't the body armour be in Coyote Brown?

It is.

Take a closer look. In most cases the figure armour is mostly obscured by arms/rifles they are holding in front of them. It's a bit more apparent on the radioman.

It was also very grey and overcast yesterday when I took the pictures so everything ended up being darker and more muted that the figures actually are.

Take a closer look at the groin guards, the hydration pack and dump pouches, they should be in Coyote Brown. There's a new Osprey out on US Marine Infantry Combat Uniforms and Equipment that's worth buying.

Overall I quite like them and I think you've done a good job on the camo.

Ah yes, the groin guards - well spotted - I wasn't sure about those as I hadn't found a clear enough picture. Thanks!

I have ordered the Osprey - but went ahead and painted these anyway as I was pretty excited to get going on them. I also have another two squads of these Eureka Marines and a command team from Empress on order. Hopefully the book will arrive first!

I recently picked up some Empress Miniatures to add to this force. The figures are listed as “Army”, but I’ve  painted them in MARPAT to use as Marines. I’m not sure how different their kit is otherwise… There’s some minor differences in the figures. Not sure if that’s actually a difference in the cut of the uniform, etc or just style of sculpting… Regardless, they’re “close enough” for my purposes.

Here is a comparrison shot of the Empress and Eureka figures:

From left to right: Empress, Eureka, Empress, Eureka, Empress, Eureka, Empress, and, you guessed it... Eureka

I have two more squads of Eureka Marines to paint up and have ordered a pair of Kitech 1/48 M1 tanks and a pair of Kitech 1/48 LAV-25s to give these guys some armoured support. (Also been eyeing up the Imprint Modles AAV-7A1)!

Just be aware that the Kitech M1 is truly dire, it looks like a toy. The Kitech LAV is, according to the experts, somewhere around 1/41. I've not measured mine but it really does seem overscale compared to the Eureka marines. Imprint do a 1/50 LAV-25.

Thanks for the heads up. If they are all that bad I'll just use them as the base for some sci-fi armoured conversion and bite the bullet and pick up some more Imprint models...

Just to chime in here.
I have a kitech Bradley and Imprint Warrior on my painting desk now.Carlos is correct.Kitech stuff is huge(and I use Assault Group moderns so they are larger than Eureka and Empress) and pretty uninspiring. They are also a nightmare to build(warped plastic and parts don't always fit).I'm going to use them for various near future/scifi conversions. The turret is big enough it will fit nicely on a 40k rhino to make a predator tank. lol

The Imprint Warrior is really nice! When I get the little bit of cleaning done I figure it will take about 10 minutes to build. I also have a pair of Strykers.I know they are on the costly side but you def get what you pay for.
Pete
Oh yeah.Really like your camo!
