200BC Hispania Roman harbour
« on: November 11, 2012, 04:35:17 PM »
I want to share some pics that may inspire you in case you are thinking in a roman harbour game
I have been recently at Arqua, the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology in Cartagena, a very nice museum focused on school groups and teaching underwater archaeology.
http://en.museoarqua.mcu.es/museo/historia/index.html

They have some nice scale models to display how was the trade in mediterranean sea on roman times, but despite all this pedagogical stuff... I see them as board games!!  ;D
for bigger pics check my blog http://my28mm.wordpress.com/2012/11/11/ancient-rome-harbour/

Nice pictures, interesting sounds venue.

That second harbour makes all sorts of ideas for a skirmish game (Rival criminal gangs, pirate/Cathaginian attacks etc.) spring to mind.

scale its hard to say, in fact there are four boards, ops sorry! exhibition display, all are same size, around 1mt of diameter.
Each one is a closer view of the previous one, first one is a map of the mediterranean sea and last one is the harbour with the temple.

The one with the temple should be 1/72, the one with many boats is around 12-15mm models, then it's a third one at really far scale (1:2400?) to display how boats navigated always keeping the shore in sight, and the fourth one was a map of the mediterranean sea.

On the website of the museum you can find a virtual tour quite well done, but dont know how these display appear.

Thanks for posting these! I love the look of the one with all of the boats. It's good to see other war gamers obsess over museum diorama's as my wife has had to put up with a lot of that over the years.
