YES!!!

I stand by what I said, lego makes for the best templates when cutting plasticard.

I use lego for several such things myself.

Shucks.  That'll be my watermill out then.

Not at all. Sang* asked if a dry watermill would be OK.  I said no. A watermill with some representation of water propelling the mill would be OK.

Thanks Hammers but the mill would have been effectively 'dry' as it is to sit upon the river on my existing terrain boards.  No worries though, the ruling is a very fair one and I'll give it more thought to see if I can make it work some other way.   :)

The daunting thing about this is knowing what the members of this forum are capable of. I would feel a bit like a Sunday League pub team taking on Brazil! As they say, however, it's the taking part that counts.

Great theme though. I can't wait to see what people come up with.

Hammers, I have a few ideas that have been sitting on the back burner for rather a long time, I bet everyone's surprised :)

One I've been thinking of is a sewer system board (yep, another tile based board). Not going to get the whole thing done in time with a new baby etc but I'd like to get the first/test tile done. Would that be allowed or is it too 'diorama' for this?
So many projects..... so little time.......

Maybe you still could, so long as you get the water effect as it drips from the mill wheel....

'Polluted' water is OK. As segment of a complex sewer board would also be OK. I think I wrote something to that effect in the rules.

It cannot be a minor aspect of the build. It has to be something obvious, like a water wheel churning the river up pretty good. Again, it is the modelling of water in various forms which is in focus here.

Analogously, when Overlord and I discussed the rules we considered a steam engine emitting a puff of steam as not cricket. On the other hand a steam engine exploding in a cloud of, well...,  steam, would.

Pull *that* one of and I am willing to bet we have a winner...

Oh, hogwash... I am sure you'll do fine. Plus, I recommend that you do a search for water effects here on LAF. There are some very good tutorials and sources of inspiration here.

What if it was something that contained water... an opened-top water tower, where you could see the contents? I'm not trying to push the boundaries here, just establishing some limits :)

Now that's an interesting idea...

Although I think I'll stick with my original plan for a Japanese waterfall  :)

Fair point!
Maybe if he built a water mill with a section of river attached so that he could sit it on top of one of his boards, with full churning effect....

Dammit, Hammers, you have gotten me thinking of potential 'water' based projects that may fit into my existing scenery now... >:( >:( >:(

Sounds OK to me, as long as there is a fair bit of water visible.

Let me just add this (and it is not specifically in regard to your idea for a build): Overlord and I only set the scope off the competition. How imaginatively, creatively and skilfully you make a representation of water will be judged by your peers. This is a competition and we hope it will spur you to push your boundaries a little bit.

There is more where that came from. When Overlord and I discussed themes and settled for water I made a long list of anticipated entries. It was quite fun!
