Tripods! Thousands of em!
« on: March 20, 2008, 10:44:49 AM »
Hi all,

Being a typical gamer I'm thinking about my next project even though my painting diary is pretty much booked up until October!!  :o

I've penciled in a 15mm War of the World project. It'll be the Martians against the world. Yep, Brits and Prussians with all their steam technology fighting the tripod menace hand in hand (okay, maybe I'm getting carried away with the hand in hand bit). I've already spotted the figures I'll be buying at SALUTE but I'm on the look out for tripods. That's where I need your help, I'd appreciate your input as to any manufacturers who supply tripods. I dont mind whether they are 15mm or 25mm or where in the world they are, I'm not exactly pushed for time. I've already spotted the goodies Black Hat and Parroom Station offer.

Thanks in advance.

You have already mentioned my first two suggestions, Black Hat and Paroom Station!
How about Monolith Designs? They have two tripods, including a crashed one.

These are my GZG ones:

They come in two sizes, these are the bigger ones. I think they would work with 15mm pretty well.

Yes, but I have a nagging feeling about them. I should have put the saucer-shaped 'head' section the other way around. Then that protuberance on the top could have been painted up like an eye (or scanner). It was a big mistake, and still nags at the back of my mind, years later.

But I honestly can't be bothered to go back and redo them, so I ought to just let it lie, really.

Thanks Plynkes - mine are still unassembled, and you've saved me a spot of bother with the eye thing.

Those look nifty.
Shame I didn't see this last week as GZG were at Sheffield at the weekend.

In a smaller scale have you looked at Brigade Models ?
They have tripods, martian cylinders, handling machines, etc.
We bought a set at Hammerhead show (Newark) and they even gave us a free Thunderchild !

Nice work Plynkes.

Has anyone got a pic of the Monolith Designs tripods Malamute mentioned?

Fastolfrus, unfortunatley those tripods are too small. Thanks anyway.

Undoubtedly way too small, the Brigade ones are only about 2mm scale ?
But I just thought I'd mention them for any other tripod fans.

We bought ours on a wave of enthusiasm after seeing Jeff Wayne's stage show.

I think my other half might have one of the Monolith tripods, but no idea where she has stashed it.

Reviresco has some tripods, and some martians, in its VSF line:

Here is a paper model of the Martian Tripod from Jeff Wayne's WOTW if anyone is interested.

I'm not 100% certain but I believe this is the finished model:

I saved them with the grand intention of shrinking the files and making 3 of these. In reality though, I will most probably buy the models from Black Hat
