Well this is my idea. Our pirate table just sits on two boards, painted blue. The joints happen to line up with where the canal runs. I am going to build a water section to fit the canal. Hoping to include various things in the water, such as rubbish, sunken boats etc
Some pictures of where the water is going to go.

I like the inclusion of "floatsom" for your canals

Then again, some one face down in the canal is probably a regular feature!
