Castle Grayskull Statue
« on: 01 December 2012, 03:36:34 AM »
I don't know if this has been shown here or not, but Icon Heroes is releasing a Castle Grayskull statue that looks to be reasonably scaled for wargaming.

Any hardcore MOTU fans may want to check out this video:

I already pre-ordered mine.  Looks like it will be about 9" by 9 3/4" by 11"

This is my boomstick!

My five-year old self is demanding I buy this.  I'm not sure I can reasonably deny the pull of nostalgia and potential uses I could have for this on the table.  Thanks for posting.

Forgot to add:  The cheapest pre-order price I've seen is $115 US (before shipping) from urban collector.  Google them up. Other outfits are selling for $140-145.

Grayskull is awesome, no doubt, but this is technically unimpressive and overly simplistic, and moreover it lacks that right character. The level of detail is especially disappointing. On the other hand $100 and some bucks is way cheap compared to how much labor it would take to make something similar.   :-I  Edit: That's the curmudgeon in me, but if I saw it on a tabletop and was playing a game with it I'm absolutely sure any quibbles I had would be forgotten and I'd think it was way cool.  :)

I'm sorely tempted but before paying that kind of money I'd like to be sure it'll work with 28mm.

Don't ya thunk the skull has been moulded from the old plastic playset? Sure looks that way to me

While I think that Spoontalke is right on most of his points on this piece I'm sure I could knock one up in 3-4 evenings spent with the foam tools and have it as good if not better (certainly bigger) for a tenth the cost. Now if youve not got the time, skills, or just have $100 plus ou need to get rid off thats another story! lol wait I just watched the video.....ok,ok, it would take me at least a week and somethings would be pretty tough...

Was He man really huge or is it a generational thing. Where does your love of he-man come from?

Both. I was a huge success, and everyone I went to primary school with had BUCKETS of He Man toys.

He Man and Cities of Gold tie for the the best cartoon ever.

I used to have the old plastic toy Sven is talking about. My son still plays with it when wew go to my parents house. The whole thing looks just like a replica of it. The only difference I can see is there is some paint on it. And the door my be different.

Edit: just watched the video, two walls seem to be the same. The extra additions so as the top of it and the other two walls look quite cool.

It was very much a mid 80's thing.  My complete set of He-Man figures is still in my old closet at my parent's house.

While I agree this isn't the most amazing piece of terrain I've seen, I don't have the skill or time to make my own, and especially not for the money they're asking.  Now, if anyone out there would like to create a Grayskull table specifically for gaming, I'd be even more interested in that.

He-Man was a big deal in my childhood.  I remember jumping off the schoolbus in '83-'84 to rush in the house and turn on He-Man.  That cartoon was probably the basis for my love of space-fantasy and even D&D.  My kids watch the old cartoons now and love them.  While we have our favorite shows we watch together now (Adventure Time) the golden age of action toons was definitely the 80's.

On a side note: He-man had many classic elements of stories that persist with humanity.

What were some of your fave 70's toons?  I remember liking Spider Man & Friends, but am drawing a blank on any others.

Oh how I loved Linda Carter, she and Erin Gray were the reasons I went through puberty.

I forgot all about the Hanna-Barbera toons.  Space Ghost and Birdman were great.

This might appeal to all you MoU aficionados:

Of course the name "She-man" can mess with you a bit.

Hasslefree also does a passable Battlecat:

Two posts so far, both promoting Hasslefree miniatures... I'm not a shill, promise (shills get paid. i guess that just makes me a stooge).

That one's on my buy list already.  Kev ignored all my requests on frothers to do a complete line of female MOTUs.   Seriously, though I think his style of sculpting suits the He-Man vibe well.
