Hi all,

Some of you may have seen, and been suitably impressed, by robh's grim fairytales project here: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=43107.0

After a bit of chatting, I started making a few bits and bobs for his project and am getting close to finishing up. So, I'd like to just show what I've been up to...

Most of the WIP pics have progressed considerably but I thought I'd share a few tips on how to make the stuff, too. The last part of this project is to make the pieces look a bit spookier...

Oh wow, there's even a little roll of toilet paper in there.  ;D

Great stuff!

I love the ruined wagon most, but that outback dunny is awesome.

Nice scenery bits...the detail is awesome...the toilet paper roll....priceless. How did you do that?
Thanks for sharing.

Shouldn't it be an old Sears-Roebuck catalog or a pile of corn cobs rather than the roll of TP?

Love your stuff - can't wait for the "how to" section for them!

Hi gang, thanks very much for the wonderful feedback.

To toilet paper roll was made using a very thin strip of paper, rolled around wire and super glued into place. It was just a matter of getting the overall shape right. It was really that simple. Then you just paint over the top of it. I can take some pics of the process, too.

On to some more pictures...

Funnily enough, one of the most satisfying experiences during this was getting the pieces to sit flat on the table!

And the well, somewhat complete:

For those interested, the well itself is made from air-drying clay: Jovi is the best, DAS is also good. I sculpted around a circular object first, just the base, then let it dry. I built it up slowly by flattening small bits of clay and rolling it with the handle of my hobby knife, just to get the slight curve. Then, some water was added and blended in. Did this over an afternoon by letting it dry, building it up etc. Then penciled the stonework and had a go with a Unihosen engraving tool :) Best birthday present ever, that thing!

The roof is made from thin plastic card, as is the structure holding it up. This was scored to buggery using a hobby knife, metal ruler, and a small steel brush.

The rope was a piece of wire which I've sculpted a roll for tied to the structure, not visible in the pics.

  • Amusingly clumsy.
Very nice indeed! Did you make the fencing for the woodstore?
Don't!

The toilet paper in the bog just adds a touch of class to an already cool model set....

Thanks chaps!

@thunderchicken: I bought it in strips from a local train shop. Last lot they had, in a clearance bin. I think I only have about 4' left. However, an industrious individual could probably achieve the same result with a laser cutter ;)
