Rocketeer Autogyro
« on: 05 January 2013, 04:13:08 AM »
Here's some picture of the great autogyro my friend Herb Gundt (of H.G. Walls) built for me.  He replaced the plastic struts with piano wire to give it extra stength.  The rotors also can be easily removed for game play.

She's a thing of beauty. Looks like a fun piece to use in a game as well!

Is that a kit, a scratchbuild, a kitbash, or something else entirely?

Either way, awesome, and I am envious!

It's a 1/48th scale model kit by Williams Brothers.  They usually run around $25 to $30 a box but the kit contains 2 complete models.  I had it painted similar to the one used by Howard Hughes in The Rocketeer movie. The kit actually comes with 5 decal sets. One is for the style Amelia Earhart flew.  It was red with the Beech-Nut logo on the fuselage.

The autogyro is so neat.
Great work by Herb.
You are a lucky guy.
Can't wait to see it in a game.

Excellent! I've got one of them somewhere.  8)

You'll need a Gee-Bee to go with it.

Just picked one of those up on the ol' eBay.  Gonna make it a the Golden Age Bat-Gyro.

Great stuff,

I swear by those autogyros. Got some a couple of years ago for $16 by getting up in the middle of the night to snipe an auction on ebay. I have used them for BoB, VBCW, SCW, and Pulp games, although sadly one of them fell from a stand onto the table in a big game at a show, and those blades are not robust! The hilarity it caused amongst my opponents was a little disappointing...
