5...4...3...2...1...
« on: 06 January 2013, 11:21:58 PM »
I spoke to Ainsty Andy & Dags ages ago about possible buggy conversions.  As (thanks to Andy) I had a few spares, I decided to give it a go and after a bit of playing around with the bits box came up with (stole!) the idea for a global recovery vehicle:

I modified the Ainsty driver by removing some of the sculpted detail (arm badges etc).  I added a (ProCreate) cap and sash, each with appropriate badges (apologies for the poor photo), and rounded off the collar:

The buggy was assembled as normal, but with the lights at the rear, as the front would be obscurred by the dozer blade.  I then added various bits of plastic card, tube & items from the bits box.  The roll-cage is a cut-down Westwind Victorian railing.

The buggy, driver, roll-cage & dozer were all kept seperate to aid painting:

All loosely fitted together, waiting for the driver:

The driver was painted (Really pleased with him):

Driver in situ:

Finally the roll-cage is added:

I'm now tempted to create more.....

Wicked! 8)

Quite the Gerry Anderson tribute/revival going on it seems.

Coincidentally, I've recently ordered 4 of the same drivers, to function as the crew for the two Imai S.H.A.D.O. mobiles I've got in the works for a UFO project.

But I doubt they'll need the amount of extra sculpting you so excellently added.

So; when will the Thunderbird 2 in matching scale be finished? :D

I don't think so.   Though I was sad enough to look up its dimensions: 4' x3' (1.2m x 0.9m) is a bit too big.

Great conversion  :-* :-* :-*
Cracking paint job,
Surely there are other thunderchickens.....sorry birds, that are smaller and easier to build in scale. You could just build the container bit of No 2.

Paul, the painting there is fantastic! You're straight-line work is sublime as well. I cannot cut plasticard straight for toffee! Very well done there. :)
Cunning resculpting work too, lovely paintjob.
