Painting wooden floors

Wash, then dry brush?  Or dry brush and a dark wash after?

Depends on the floor type and how heavily whethered you'd like it.

For ship decks I paint, wash and then drybrush. For interior floors I sometimes paint, drybrush and then apply pastels in the corners to give a controlled, subtle look.

What it is in particular that you're painting?

cheers

It's the semi-circular floor from the Mithril vignette "An Unexpected Party".  While I'm not planning on fixing the figures to the floor (they're actually going to be used in various crowd scenes), I do want to use the floor as perhaps a low stage in a tavern, or in a town square.  So not terribly weathered, but not so very pristine as in Aunt Abigail's good parlor that only sees the light of day for funerals or a visit from a head of state.

Keep it nice and subtle then but exchange the pastels for a thin wash and you should be fine  :)

Oh yeah, don't be afraid to have multiple layers of drybrushing, bringing it up from the base colour, takes longer but the overall effect is much better.

cheers

James
