Hi
I need some advise please.
I am after some Belgians for WWI East Africa,which ones should I go for ??.
I was thinking Brigade ,but the Foundry ones are very nice as well.
Any Ideas on which ones are more authentic,and from the right period.

I have both. The Foundry ones are pre-Great War (and that's what I bought them for). But they were still wearing that uniform at the outbreak of the war, so I quite happily use them.

The Brigade ones appear to be in a mix of the pre-war blue uniforms, with a couple of them in the transitional Khaki (with blue trousers) that came in during the war. None of them are wearing the late-war full khaki uniform.


I would say get the Brigade ones if you must choose between them, but I like the ragged filibustering look of some of the Foundry fellows, so I use them too.

Gavin, I've Brigade Games plus some Foundry mainly their officers/NCOs, Standard bearer and drummer.

I have to agree with Helen.

I also use the Brigade figures for my rank and file. The Foundry command figures will work fine with these (slightly shorter than Brigade, but they otherwise scale in ok with Brigade).

Its such a pity that Brigade haven't yet added command and maxim gun packs to their Belgian askaris, as these are the best range for WW1 East Africa that I've come across (BIG hint to Lon).

BTW - Another range worth looking at (at least if you are based in Europe) is the WW1 East Africa range from Battle Honours UK. This range seems to be based on the Osprey WW1 East Africa and Indian Army books. The figures are shorter than Brigade (closer to Foundry in size). I have some of their Indain Army from this range and I'm quite happy with them (I especially like the pack of moving and firing maxim guns). The range also includes a pack of Belgian askaris (10 figures including command), although I haven't yet seen thse figures.
