Guitarheroandy's Middle Earth Project WIP UPDATE: 2.3.13 Orcs!!!

Here's the first model for my evil army. The troll! I just love this model - definitely my favourite of all the GW trolls...



Am in the middle of painting a bunch of Orcs too - they are proving a challenge with the dip technique, as they are (converted) GW plastics with some fairly shallow detail...

I have some time off work this week so hopefully a group of 8 plus one of my heroes could be posted by the end of the week.

The Big Dude looks GREAT; I didn't think it was possible to get that mini to look THAT GOOD....FINE brushwork & an eye for color can do wonders. VERY WELL DONE!

Ok, the Middle Earth project creeps ever onwards! Here are the first of the Orcs. I got a job-lot off EBAY - 62 plastic Orcs including a dozen archers. Then I picked up some Morannon Orc command types to use as heroes.

For my Middle Earth adaptation of Dux Brit, I need some 'elite' Orcs. I could have bought plastic Morannons, but there weren't any on EBAY and I wasn't gonna pay full price given that I needed to buys some Elves from GW, so I converted some plastic Orcs, adding Gripping Beast Dark Age shields and some Perry steel spears (from their 16th Century Samurai range) and here they are - 8 Elite Orcs with a hero. The same technique as per the troll and the Elves was used here. The standard is handpainted on plain old A4 computer paper.








They do look pretty dark and nasty, but I want them to contrast with the Elves on the tabletop. Here are a couple of 'action shots' to show the Orcs and Elves (plus accompanying monsters) next to each other. The Eagle was originally in my WFB Elf army and has been pressed into service here. He was painted in layers, mainly drybrushed and was done years ago. He slots in rather well, I think...

Great work. The scenic shots are very effective, too. I've actually got that Morannon Orc Captain chap in my painting queue so those close-ups are very handy.

I think the orcs look pretty cool. All dirty and gritty. Dipping seems to work well on them actually. Very well done!
