Sources of new Heads for 5th ed Bretonians
« on: January 24, 2013, 04:28:47 PM »
hi all,

I wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the fantasy section...but I'm trying here first... o_o

I'm working up a couple of units of 15 men at arms using the Citadel Bretonian from the 5th edition of WFB...one with spears and one with halberds.  I want to expand these to 21 figures but I can't stand the number of duplicate figures that would require (their are only 4 unique sculpts for the R&F) and I would like to add some diversity by doing some simple head swaps on the final six figures for each unit.  So what heads would you recommend for this?  they don't need to be GW heads I just want the scale to be pretty close.

these are the spearmen I'm talking about

And these are the halberds

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Cheers,

Blue

I mix these figures with front rank HYW figs and they scale perfectly. I suppose you could whip they heads off of them if you really wanted to stick with the Halberdier poses. The spearmen are a slightly different matter, I've got 3 units of them and I've never bothered swapping heads but I guess you could use some of the perry HYW stuff or maybe the WOTR plastics if you are careful which heads you use (maybe the unhelmeted ones?). I wonder if crusader minaitures heads would fit scale wise (obviously expensive chopping heads off other minis. Maybe the fireforge plastics?

Yeah I'm not sure that the entire figures would fit within the unit...but the heads do look nice.  is this one of those plastic sets that comes with extra heads?

anyone got extras?

thanks!

Chris

What about claymore castings figures? I think the heads will be fairly close in size.

Have you considered swapping heads among the Bretonnians?

even simpler
a hand holding a spear can also hold a halberd
unless You insist on the dynamic halberd wielding pose (which could get difficult in the second rank)
change spears to halberds and halberds to spears, cut away the unnecessary shield bosses
Double handed spear wielders have their shields on the back, done

Is it heads, or heads+helmets, that you're after?

Do you know anyone who has any Wargames Factory British Firing Line from their Zulu War range?

They might serve - lose heads with no hats (some bearded, some with moustachios) that you could maybe sculpt hoods, caps or helmets on. You get something like 28 heads in a box of 20 troops, so almost anyone with Wargames Factory British should have some spare heads (of those 28, 8 are moulded wearing Glengarry caps and 20 are 'bare', to be given pith helmets, so it's possible to use up all the useful heads making a unit of guys with pith helmets).

These are in the European range
What about spare heads from the Perry WOTR plastic range?
