My Ikea Hack Display Case - Now w Full Tutorial
« on: January 27, 2013, 04:38:01 AM »
First big game/miniatures accomplishment of 2013--finished this Ikea hack lighted display case made from a Billy bookcase with Morebo doors. Seemed like it would be fairly easy and straightforward, but it proved a challenge. I'm pretty happy with the result, though.

And some shots of what's gone in so far :):

Still lots of room left!

In the pic with all my pretty Kublas you can just make out a bit of the black light switch on the right below the lip of the shelf.

More details and bigger pics on this blog post:

edit 2/3: Here's a full tutorial:

Nice work! What did you use for the mirror in the back of the case, and for the glass shelves? Did you need to fit the glass shelves to the bookcase width?

I had once converted a tall IKEA Leksvik bookcase into two lower ones before they released a lower one. Now that the lower one is out of production, I may have to convert another tall one!

Billy shelves come with variable fixing points and glass shelves as options - I have several.
The mirror and light look very well done though. Might have to add mirror to mine...

Thanks all!  :) I finished the tutorial and wound up making it very comprehensive after all! All questions answered hopefully but if any remain just ask.
