Godslayer, Kickstarter
« on: 02 February 2013, 07:20:34 PM »
Hi, Just received an email that Megalith Games is doing a Kickstarter: Set in a rich and detailed fantasy universe named Calydorn, GODSLAYER is a fast and tactically challenging tabletop skirmish game, influenced by mythological aspects and played with highly detailed metal miniatures in a true 32mm scale. The game is designed for two or more players and offers a totally new gaming experience with several aspects never before seen. Interested in the reviews of these miniatures take a look here:

http://wargameterrain.blogspot.be/2012/11/godslayer-nordgaard-faction.html

So why the Kickstarter?

Well, we have actually managed to release GODSLAYER without the help of any crowd-funding platform which earned us the trust of our customers as a serious company. So why would we risk that image and suddenly start a Kickstarter project? Well, let us be honest: even though we have become a professional company, we still have to spend tremendous time and efforts, as well as lots of money on developing and producing the English version of GODSLAYER in order to meet our demanding release schedule. The German version has always been planned for, but the big issue is that we currently do not have the necessary resources to do that in a timely manner while also continuing model releases at break-neck speed.

This is where Kickstarter comes in. With this project we would like to raise the necessary money for translating and producing all the GODSLAYER products in German! With the money we raise here, we will be able to pay the translators and get the printing process started! Money we earn in excess to the project goal of 25K will further help us to finance GODSLAYER. Actually we already financed all the releases of the first wave (for the English version), but with this extra money we will have a much better basis which allows us to speed up the whole process and begin wave 2 earlier than planned! So let´s hope that this GODSLAYER Kickstarter project is a success and that we can produce the German version of it as well as speed up the whole release of GODSLAYER, be it in English or German! NOTE: ALL REWARDS WILL BE AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH AND GERMAN!

Looks interesting but for those outside the UK £12 shipping seems high...

Also noted that but I can assure you that some of the Startersets weigh quite a lot especially the trologdyte one.

Don't know why the intro booklets postage is so high though?  :?

Very nice models, especially the 'not-roman' faction, but I am not sure I have a use for them... too many other games I am trying to find opponents for.  o_o

I agree too on shipping costs - 12GBP is pretty darn high for a 30GBP item if I just want one warband.  That's 40% of the price in shipping costs!  Places like Gripping Beast and others charge around 20% order cost for RoW shipping, and even that seemed expensive to me.  Sure, some of the miniatures are large, but the troglodyte box only has 5 figures in it...

Shipping costs seem to be fixed across the board, so I pay 12 GBP whether I buy 30GBP or 300GBP of product.  Kinda encourages people to pledge more, but at the same time discourages those who just want to try it out or get some miniatures.

Just received this from: David of Megalith Games: "Regarding the shipping costs, Kickstarter only allows one price to be entered which must apply to all orders.? Just as an example, most of the deals contain the rulebook package.? The rulebook package alone weights 2 kilos (4lbs) and costs is 34 EUR in shipping.... so we are really pay out a lot of money on most of the pledges."

Cheers

Have they also mentioned, which courier they use?

Via DHL it's only 15,-€ up to 5kgs within the EU, incl. insurance and tracking. So the 12.- pounds would be alright.  :? (34 EUR would be for ROW delivery.)

Ouch, that hurts for shipping.  It sure is a temptation, but I already have one skirmish game with very expensive miniatures that I am getting into.  Another one might just be too much  o_o

That's the hard thing with the smaller games on KS... a lot of them are really nice, but since they are smaller games, it costs a lot more to get into it, as you get less for your money than the big companies' KS campaigns.  So you kinda really have to want to support the game to go in for it.

I really like their human sculpts though... not-romans, not-greeks, and the not-wood-elves all look stellar!

Hi!

This is André from Megalith Games! David already informed about the shipping costs issue... The problem is that we can only define one single fee on Kickstarter! Even though shipping inside the UK is 15€ with DHL, shipping outside the EU is a lot more expensive and starts with 34€, quickly going up to 80€ and more!

Our products weigh quite a lot, so we normally lose money with the shipping costs, even when already charging 12 GBP... maybe not within the EU, but as soon as someone buys a starter box and a rulebook box package, we need to pay more than 12 GBP :)

Actually, even with the shipping costs, you will still be able to save money with regards to the RRPs!
Of course, the lower pledge levels don´t offer such a great bargain as the higher ones, but check out our stretch goals! The first one on 30K will already increase all the rewards of the 30 GBP level and up by some free miniatures! And there will be other free stuff added when reaching other stretch goals! So if everyone joins and supports us we will be able to expand the deals by quite some nice stuff (there will be more stretch goals online soon, including such things as free dice, tokens, etc.)

So maybe it´s worth taking a look at it! We would be happy to get a few more supporters! I will also put on some more videos regarding the gameplay and showing some of the products. Maybe that helps to get interested! :)

Best regards,
André

Other Kickstarters I've seen mention in the text of the pledge level to add X amount for shipping to destination A, B, C etc.

Is this a way to get round the one fee problem and accomodate the pledgers?

@Sterling Moose: that would be possible maybe, but from the current experience many people do not read all the stuff carefully enough and thus might not add the shipping costs, etc...

Anyway, I have posted a huge update on the Kickstarter project today including a new video which deals with the Starter Boxes and the Rulebook Box, giving you a short review of ALL the miniatures of the first wave! And all of that presented in spectacular English! :)

You should definetely give it a try!

Andre,

Would it not be cheaper to send parcels via Royal Mail rather than by courier?  Perhaps packages with a heavy book might not be worth it, but if people wanted just a few sets of miniatures?

Unfortunately no... check the prices for small packages to the USA. They are much higher than 12 GBP :)
Of course 12 GBP cover the cost for EU shipments, but since we can only specify one shipment fee, we need to take into account shipping stuff to  the USA...

I'm pledged at the £50 level for this and really like the look of it. Can't wait to get my scabbies on the stuff and get playing!

Can't see the Soul Harvester pledge level though? How much is that?

Hi Kitsune,

Soul Harvester is the 55 GBP pledge level and gets you a character, a creature/war-machine and a maxed-out unit.

We are also about to add a new warband booster deal. stay tuned.
