Army Painter Anti-Shine Brush on
« on: February 04, 2013, 04:56:21 PM »
Hey there,

does anyone have gathered any experiences with the AP Anti-Shine in brush-on form? Would be interested to read your experience or reviews on it.

Cheers,

R

I've got two models that I applied soft tone quickshade to last night. I'll be applying the brush on anti-shine tonight and will try to share my progress.

Hey Doc,if it's anything like the spray,it will knock all your highlights out,I would thin it considerably ;)

I didn't even know it was available in brush-on form, good to know.

Pro-tip: Do NOT try to brush on the anti-shine varnish from the spray can, the propulsion agent will eat your paintjob... Trust me on this!  :D

I wasn't having a good hobby-day last night and ended up totally ruining a batch of figures (nothing to do with any of Army Painter's products...just me being stupid). However, I did try out the brush-on anti-shine. I didn't even think to take before and after photos, so I do apologize.

However...I can vouch for the anti-shine. It works VERY well. The quickshade varnish dries with a very high gloss finish, and I thought there was no way that a brush on matte varnish could cover it, but it does. I'd recommend being careful to remove any bubbles and paint it on as smoothly as you can. When I checked them again in the morning there was almost no shine left, other than a few spots I missed. A quick two-second touch up on those spots and I'm sure everything will look perfect.

Hey guys, thank you for the replies.

@obsiodian3d
Thank you so much for sharing. I am still looking for something I can try it on myself.

that's really funny from a remote perspective of someone who hasn't tried out this stuff
so You are using "quick" shade, which makes the PJ look shiny, but then You brush on anti shine?
where is the "quick" gone then?

 :D lol
maybe there is a point to that, but You must admit is seems rather funny

Well for some of us, spraying an anti-shine is simply not an option during certain parts (about six months out of twelve for me) due to the weather. Spraying a matte coat outside in cold weather would just ruin any paint job due to frosting. So if you are using the quickshade / varnish technique, the brush on matt anti-shine is a viable option, and doesn't really take that long.

I understand
never thought of it because I always do the spraying in the basement, and I spray a lot.
I don't own a house, mind You
But I understand, of course one can't spray outside in the cold
THX for clearing this up for me
