Beast of Malal Finished ( Nearly :-) )
« on: 06 February 2013, 03:43:14 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I have decided to have ago At sculpting a Beast Of Malal for Oldhammer
I used the  concept sketch by Tony Ackland  as a starting point.

I have started using mix off Magic sculpt with a little bit of green stuff Kneadatite  :)

Its only A work in progress at the minute, I have still got the Eyes and arms to do. I might  do some extra head variants and maybe a set of wings  Huh?

What do you think so far?

Here is the original sketch by Tony Ackland,

Pretty good so far, but I think the body needs a little more texture. It's too smooth looking.

Also, the legs could be a little less mirrored in position. Would look better with one more in front of the other. Not so much that the models looks like it's walking or running, but judging by the concept art the left leg should be a bit more forward to support the weight of the body leaning forward and reaching out with one arm.

What size is this? I'm assuming it's matching the 80s greater deamons in size?

Beak looks too clean too btw, missing the teeth and the fleshy parts in the corner of the "mouth".

I'll see what I can do about the pose. The head still needs work, its not finished yet.

He is about 30mm tall, smaller than a greater demon.

Thanks for the feedback, it all helps me to try and improve  :)

Thanks
George

So far, I like it. An insect head option may look nice too.

Very nice indeed - there's potential there to make up a Malal warband - the beast, Kaleb Daark, some beastmen as the Claws of Malal.

Is this a personal sculpt or do you plan to make it more widely available?

IIRC correctly, GW couldn't make Malal miniatures as the original designer kept the liscense? I think it's actually 2000AD who hold it, but I'm not certain...

These could be beasts of Lalam!

Didn't the other four Chaos gods wish really hard and made Malal disappear?  lol
I recall the description in WFRP of Malal. Made him sound worse than the other four altogethe.r

Seriously nice looking start!
