DitDC - Force Publique and Azande
« on: February 14, 2013, 12:49:16 PM »
So, the challenge has been laid down by Mr Morris who wishes to test his newly painted Azande (and very nice they are too!)

I just so happen to have a, albeit limited in numbers, FP force that has never had so much as had a whiff of gun-smoke.

Now i haven't played that much in the way of DitDC. However, one aspect of gaming that i really enjoy is list making and then pitting my wits (or as they case may be ..) against a skilled opponent. James M is a veteran of DitDC.

My 300 pt force... using the DitDC Supplement 1 by Chris Peers

1891 Force Publique (Organised)
Chief - Muzungo with Repeater
1. Volunteer Askaris: Soldiers with breech-loaders (1 x 3 bases)
2/3. Conscript Askaris: Raw Soldiers* with breech-loaders (2 x 4 bases)
Tetela Allies
4/5. Warriors (2 x 4 bases)
6/9. Skirmishers with Bows (4 x 2 bases)

*Special Rule: Firing on the Move - unlike normal Raw Soldiers, Raw Force Publique Askari with breech-loaders can move voluntarily into close combat. This represents a wild rush while firing rather than any real desire to use cold steel.

9 x units is the maximum allowed in a DitDC army list.  Time will tell whether the firepower and allies approach will work or whether it is neither one thing or another.

I'm not qualified to comment on your force composition, as I don't really have much knowledge of the rules. So instead my comment is this:

Pictures, please!  :)

Seeing as James has posted his, here's my Azande army to beat up on the Force Publique:

Azande (300 points)
Bafuka’s Azande – 1890s
Based on Chris Peers’ descriptions of Azande in ‘The African Wars’: “We do not know the proportions of firearms, spears and throwing knives in Bafuka’s army, though he certainly did possess guns in significant numbers.”

Bafuka (Chief, Organised): 1 base of Elite Skirmishers with Breechloaders @36      36pts
1. Bafuka’s Bodyguard: 3 bases of Elite Skirmishers with Breechloaders @21      63pts
2. Tombo’s ‘Aparanga’ Warriors: 3 bases of Elite Skirmishers with Throwing Knives @10   30pts
3. 3 bases of Elite Skirmishers with Throwing Knives @10            30pts
4. 3 bases of Elite Skirmishers with Throwing Knives @10            30pts
5. Malingindo’s Musketeers: 4 bases of Skirmishers with Muskets @7         28pts
6. 3 bases of Skirmishers with Muskets @7                  21pts
7. Kana’s Warriors: 5 bases of Skirmishers with Spears @4            20pts
8. 5 bases of Skirmishers with Spears @4                  20pts
9. 5 bases of Skirmishers with Spears @4                  20pts

Total 298pts – 68 models

Finally finished basing all the models and am now building an Azande village and a 'Tree of Skulls' (as seen in Schweinfurth's drawings.)  Will attempt to get and remember to post photos when the encounter is over!

Oh! Carrots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the unquestionable delights of a Committee Meeting (and I didn't go to the last one) at the fencing club so I will be unable to watch the fun.

Sounds like a good game.  The figures are well done!  Are you using a single figure as a "base?"

Thank you. 3 figs to a "base" in the case of FP troops* (as they're based individually for another game system); i've only used one figure per rectangular base for the cannibals

In fact, two figures on 2p bases are closer to the recommended base size of 60 x 20 mm but the convention is that you use 3 figs per base for Soldiers, Warriors etc and only 2 figs for lighter troops. Here i've only used two figs to represent the Muzungo

Cheeky! The huts shown are DA.

I wasn't planning on using the same terrain. I just put the table out to sort out my force and save a little time this evening.

Of more concern, is that my figures seem to be reacting to the pummice base/old 2ps combo. I've seen it eat figures in the past. Note the white "powder" on the table which is coming off the bottom of the bases  :(
