Hey gang
« on: 23 February 2013, 12:10:04 AM »
Hey gang,

Scott, aka Sumatran Rat Monkey (or Monk) from The Miniatures Page here.

Was doing one of my periodic perusals of the LAF the past couple days and noticed what I suspect are a few familiar faces from bygone days that I haven't seen in quite a while (especially if Scurv's who I think he is!).  Additionally, I'm finding myself less and less active on TMP, for my own reasons.

Combine the two, and I figured maybe it's about damn time I finally signed up, said hello, and, you know, actually became a part of the community.

So... uh...

Hola?
...I ate all the rest, and now I've gotta eat you...

Hey!  Glad to see you here, SRM!  I was just thinking about you the other day, and wondering if I still had a valid email from years ago.  Welcome to the place where people play nicely with others pretty consistently.  And they post some great pics, too.  (Not me, I'm a lurker here.)

'Tacha!

The email you (and anyone else who may remember me from TMP) should still work.  I'll throw you a PM here, though, just to make sure.

If anyone else needs/wants/something elses to check with me for anything, feel free to private message me.

Higher class of establishment too.  ;)

Well, in that case, I'll get my hat...

Haha.

Heya Scurv.  Any other of the old gang around here that I should be aware of?

Ah, yeah- I ran into Jake during the Sedition Wars: Battle For Alabaster KickStarter, and we chatted a bit there and on the McVey boards.

Man, I haven't talked to Poly or Glenn in forever.  Still see Alien from time to time in my occasional meanderings through TMP.  Also, I need to call Allen Curtis sometime soon, so thanks for reminding me, heh.

Thought I saw Jakar Nilson's name crop up a time or two here, too, during my most recent perusal, speaking of familiar faces.

As for the quality of work around here, trust me, I know-- I've lurked here off-and-on for a few years, and never cease to be impressed, especially by some of the brushwork (I'm looking at you guys, Prof. Witchheimer and Dentatus, just off the top of my head).  Ever since Major General Tremorden Rederring's Colonial Wargaming site disappeared, LAF has been on the same rotation as a select few blogs (dwartist's, Scott Pyle's, and a few others) when I'm looking for inspiration- a circle second only to Sean Patten's Necromundicon, really.

Actually kind of looking forward to becoming part of the community, to be honest- seems like a relaxed, casual kind of place, sort of how TMP used to be, before it got swamped in the sea of petulant jackasses that, IMO, brought it down.  Enough about that, though...

Heya Monk!  Welcome to LAF.  'tis a very friendly place and - as Scurv said - brimming with talent and enthusiasm.

Still alive and vaguely about, for the record!

Just had a series of mishaps- well, two (very minor) leg surgeries, and one mishap- a scalpel fell off a card table I was using as an erstwhile workbench setup, and in a truly dashing display of lightning reflexes overcoming any innate intelligence, I caught it.

Oddly enough, #11 Swann Morton blades seem to be sharp!  Who knew?!

Blighter went in one side of my finger, likely bounced off the bone (so sayeth the ER doc, who, some of you will be unsurprised to hear, seemed a bit nonplussed by my complete lack of histrionics, or even visible concern, over the situation), and then proceeded to jut out the far side of my finger a good 3/4" of an inch or so, maybe a  bit more.

Also, apparently, wrapping paper towel around your finger so you can wipe down and put away your scalpel before going to the hospital is considered unusual, too, for the record.

I'm starting to wonder if maybe my exes weren't slightly right, when they told me I was a bit off....

Maybe you could fake some hysteria?  Sorry to hear about your surgeries.  And the scalpel.  The blood didn't mess up any of your work, did it?

+1

Welcome to LAF.

May you have a long and merry stay with us.
I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

Oddly, it did, actually- in addition to soaking the table (and ruining an issue of Walking Dead that was sitting on it), it splashed over the left half of a figure (a 50mm+ PsycoBorg from Alternative Armies' Ion Age line) I'd laid a silver basecoat down on the night before.

Didn't notice it until I got home from the ER a couple hours later (2 1/2, maybe 3?  I stopped to grab lunch and a pack of smokes on my way home, too), saw the blood all over the figure, took it to the sink, rinsed it of...

...and wherever the blood had been, the paint sloughed off with it.  Was weird, honestly- never seen that happen before, especially not with day old acrylics.  Was like the blood ate away at the bond- took paint and primer both off, to the point that I had to reprimer the figure (which wasn't such a bad deal anyyway, as I decided to basecoat in Reaper Black Metallic this time, instead, and have been working on building up the base since, too.).

Like I said- just a bit strange, I thought.
