Remove sticky paint from plastic minis
« on: 06 March 2013, 10:55:13 AM »
Hi All

I recently got a load of second hand D&D board game minis, they had been stripped of paint, i think in a Dettol bath (they sort of smelled like it) Most of the paint has been removed but there are still bits of paint remaining.

The problem is, the remaining paint has become pretty sticky and gummy and isn't coming off so easily. Does anyone have any tips to solve this? I was thinking of sticking it back in more Dettol, but I don't want to make it any worse.

Thanks

I'd give them a wash in some hot, soapy water and then dump them back in the dettol, I've had similar problems with stripping some primers, but it usually comes off after a second dip. I wouldn't worry about making it any worse, the dettol should eat through it eventually.

Last year I had to strip some plastic horses from Vallejo paints and Armypainter Quickshade. I made really good experience with ethyl alcohol.

Look here to see the results:
