indeed Glen.............have spent a lot of time on this range as after

all it would be rude not to do the Mayans.........was aiming for the end

of 2012 but we survived! lol

i have made a nod in the direction of Apocolypto and striven for accuracy.

and the view is my Conquistadors will be multi purpose and wander off

into the Elizabetan era..................New Spain first...there were some

amazing tribes in that peninsular.........

You do know that (given that Spanish armies before 1820 - except the SAW -  :-* are second only to American Armies   :-*  :-* before 1900 in my interests)  8) you have screwed  :o my plans for getting away from 25+ mm figures  8) and moving into 1/600th scale as I head towards retirement, don't you?   o_o   ;)

Now I need to sit down and reassess storage completely!   ;)

Gracias,

Glenn  :)

Gibby

thanks for the interest chaps...the Huaxtec which  these Mayan branch are based on were fond of fighting naked...but not all, the Aztecs thought this pretty crude and looked down their noses at them as well as fearing them, and often ambused em with odds of 10/1
in their favour!! :o
basically these were the "nutter" mayans..filed teeth.cranial deformation was practised. i had to do these first. Hildresd.lance ,  Sir Barnaby there will be mounted conquistadors and a crossbowman nexr for the "white Gods"
to types of artillery are in the mix..and much more 8)

There were several female conquistadores in the conquest of Mexico, one was a cavalry woman and fought well with a lance. Refer to Cortes' letters, Diaz, some of the legal documents of the services of conquistadors etc. Plenty of resources to chose from.

If you want an easy reference to the collected histories of the Spanish individuals involved in the Aztec conquest, buy Hugh Thomas's Who's Who of the Conquistadors. He collated the Conquistadoras into one small chapter for easy reference. An excellent scholarly work researching each person in the conquest, a brief history of them and their involvement and where they are mentioned in various memoirs, court cases etc. Good for fast references to digging for deeper detail on personalities. The only let down in the whole book for English readers is his occasional (and very informative) quotation of Spanish sources in old Spanish within the English text.

His equally excellent book The Conquest of Mexico is a very detailed retelling of the Aztec Conquest with almost every snippet of hidden information from court cases, the major memoirs, native sources etc which fills in lots of hidden bits of back story. At times dry and difficult to read, it has decent chapter notes on sources for those that read a Diaz or Cortes or Hassig once and thought they were experts in the field.

oo, that's so out of date I should destroy it :( I keep meaning to shift it to facebook, but haven't completed the transition. Busy doing other things in life, miniatures are on the back burner for the next year :)
