Campaign for a Romfell Armoured Car model
« on: 13 April 2008, 02:25:01 PM »
This beauty, as discovered on the magnificent 'Landships' site, is just screeeaaaming out to be made into a BoB model.  Don't really care if its 1/56 or 1/64 (though I prefer to have my models slightly smaller than real scale - looks better on the table in my humble opinion), but somebody out there must want to make this beauty.  Looks like the batmobile!

I'll take three if anyone wants to get going, and I'm sure I can get 'The League' to sign up to a few more!

We want a Romfell and we want it NOW!

Nice car  :)

I'll probably begin collecting 'military-style' vehicles for the 'interwar pulp era' soon (I have a lot of minis, and civilian vehicles), and a German  armoured car would certainly be tempting...

I love the fully attired Austro Hungarian hussar next to the AC.  How did he get the sword belt in through the hatch???  Surely the spurs slid all over the interior and ripped the seats???

as soon as the LPL is over that is going way way up on my scratch build list if no-one has announced one by then,

In my fevered imagination they are not b&w photos - I see lots of black and richtofen red but then I am raving mad

egad!  That is very nice...

Sure I'll make one..for myself!  Hmmm, if enough folks want one, I could look into small run, then if popular it would find it's way into the main lineup.  Usually though you need about 30 to 40 orders to make these things affordable and for me to break even...but maybe we can use this as a test.

My B2 Halftracks, model T ambulance and Stake Bed are casting now.  Those are sort of my  test on seeing how popular this stuff is for pulp.  The other Model T's I did do ok, but I think mainly go to the WW1 crowd.

I think because of its superb shape it will appeal to WWI, BoB, Pulp and Cuthulu players.  Go for it!

Brent,

Sorry for hyjacking this thread but did I read correctly on your site  that you plan to make a 28mm Schneider tank?

I knew I had seen that thing before. It is in one of the Austro-Hungarian Ospreys. Was going to scan it but I realise it is one of the pictures already posted. Grrr.

Don't want to be all of a downer on the project, as it is a lovely, weird-looking thing, but according to Mr. Osprey,

"Their rarity makes Austro-Hungarian armoured cars an interesting subject for research, but their operational contribution was not significant."

Seems like only a tiny handful of Romfells were produced. Possibly two, maybe even only one. So Ignatieff doesn't need to buy three!  :)

Yes, but in A Universe More Pulpish, lots and lots of Romfells would have been produced, purely because they looked exceptionally awesome. So they'd be running around all sorts of unexpected places decades after the Austro-Hungarian Empire collapsed!

I'd probably take at least one, despite the pricetag on 28mm vehicles still making this mostly-15mm-until-recently gamer flinch.
