Can anyone identify this miniature?
« on: April 04, 2013, 12:58:31 AM »
I just bought this on ebay, but I have no idea what it is and where it is from. I just thought it looked really cool...

Hopefully I wasn't ripped off.

I don't think it is a Rafm Cthulhu monster, since there seems to be mechanical parts. Actually I don't even know the size of this one yet, since I only bought it and it still needs to be shipped to me.

It's a Rafm 'Flying Polyp' from their CoC line. I think it may be missing a few little bits though, mine has little tufts/squirts of tentacles/feelers on it.

Correct. Here's a shop link. Determine from that whether you got ripped off...

And here's a scale pic (which is becoming my most linked image, first for cultists and now for this...)

Many of these sculpts are quite closely based on Mark J. Ferrari's illustrations from CoC source books, I think. See the polyp entry here.

Ah, that is about same price I paid, so I guess it was kind of a rip off, since it is not complete.

Too, bad...

I never thought it to be a Cthlhu monster, since I took the tubing and such as mechanical parts. I think I wil try and paint mine up as a mechanical horror thing, I guess it will work out anywyay.

The style of the RAFM Cthulhu figures always seemed odd to me... like, I can't tell if they're meant to be very stylized or if they're just bad sculpts. Some look like art deco gargoyles off some NYC tower... others are clumsy/unconvincing clusters of lumps. They seem particularly dependent on getting the right paintjob.
