« on: 09 April 2013, 06:56:23 AM »
Have anyone tryed the Bog-a-Ten system?

If so... Can you tell me your opinions about it?

It sounds quite interesting, but want to know a little more about it before purchasing.

Thank you.
I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

I have a copy but have never actually played it properly. The guys I game with weren't intetested and I didn't have a playing surface I was happy with. I bought a load of cheap plastic dinosaurs as well as some askari, etc. but I wanted steam launches and everything! I had a few mock solo games and it seemed fun but I kept wanting to tweak things. It is likely very good fun with a group.

I'm sure there was a great photo article in Wargames Illustrated some years back from a club that went all the way with the game.

Each player has one hero and 3 retainers. The hero has combat rating of 6, the retainers have a value of 4. Each player also has a steam launch. The table should be set out with with s number of islands with beaches surrounded by shallow water and then deep water between the islands. The exact location of your team determines the type of encounter you have. Each launch can move up to 30cm IIRC with a crew spending a turn to disembark. All encounters and combat is done using the cards from 2 packs of playing cards. The ace of spades are removed and the packs shuffled together. A quarter of the pack is discarded and the aces added back in. The jokers are only used in the 10th anniversary special rules for special events. Each player takes a turn drawing a card for their encounter which might be a form of dino or other creature from the type of terrain they are on. Each creature has a value that must be beaten by the combined total of the character's combat value plus the value of a card turned over by the player. Each island has a special token that the players must search for to enable them to enter the temple island which is the ultimate aim.

Tell you what, rather than my ramblings take a look at rhis, which covers the basic ruked.

The advanced 10th anniversary rules add so much more though.
