Question on Elves
« on: 18 April 2013, 03:08:57 AM »
I was wondering if anyone makes 28mm elves wearing mail, or very little plate, and using straight swords rather than curved ones you see all too often. I always envisioned Tolkein's elves in this manner somewhat more akin to this artist's interpretations from the Silmarilion rather than how Peter Jackson made them out to be.

Check out the Jess Goodwin sculpted elves from the classic period of citadel figures...1987-1991or so...I think they will fit the bill.

See some here: http://www.solegends.com/citcat19912/c20201highelves-00.htm

My first choice would be Thunderbolt Mountain. But we warned, the realistic proportions they have would make look off most of your other miniatures.

Reaper also has some interesting miniatures, but compare the hands of this one with the Thunderbolt one and you'll notice a huge difference.

Then, Red Box Games is also a good option, but the miniatures are small (think of GW LotR).

rather than how Peter Jackson made them out to be.

Always a worthy cause. ;)

I'm tempted to take a leaf out of Finarfin's book and convert some Ebob normans. Especially after looking at Ted Nasmith art and Victor Ambrus' Noldor in the Tolkien bestiary. At the most basic level I think a few celtic shield swaps might help.
