I mentioned the same to the Dragon earlier, but I thought that I should mention it here in your 'Oficial version 2.1 Super Advanced Beta' thread that between the two of you (and SI, of course), you have completely sold this me on this setting.

So much so that I feel the 'need' to put my own SSS project on the 'to-do' list for next year.

So, all joking aside,: Thank You!

Thanks mate! Wouldn't ever dare race you though.  lol

I'm not that fast overall - I can happily churn figures out, but anything larger than a human takes me for ever to finish! lol (And I also do have the tendancy to 'butterfly-flit' between projects, so great progress is often followed by long pauses...)

One of my friends is designing some character sheets for me (not that SI's aren't OK, I just have to take it to the next level).

I'll be making a unique sheet for each char and you'll basically draw which characters you have in your game.

Inspired by a Swedish zombie game, the characters will carry over injuries and so on, permanently on their sheet. So at a point a character will have more gear and injuries than when it started... even if it's in the deck so to speak.

To use in the sheets I've made polaroids for all the characters:

Nice work on the mugshots ..... Even the dodgy looking one!  ;)

I'm looking forward to seeing how these pan out, as personalised cards/sheets are very much encouraged.  I don't think it'll be of any use to you Dr T but there's a word doc for the cards, to make customisation a bit easier.   :)

Sorry if this has already been answered...but can someone please tell me the manufacturer of these figures??? They are brilliant and I could certainly use some.

How rude, I think the hat suits you. I am sure it goes well with your Hawaiin shirts ;)

Yesterdays work at a terrain mat for this project just turned out completely shite... I'm not sure what to make of it.

So, in essence I'm stuck with two things: the trees I wanted to do do not fit in the box and the terrain mat didn't work.

I still am doing the project of course, but I think it's rather optimistic to think that I can rectify these troubles in a few days. Trees and mat pics to follow tomorrow no matter what.  lol

Ouch that's gotta hurt CV.  :-[

I'm finding life pretty hectic at the moment, and not getting much/any building time. Good luck, and lets see what we manage! :)

I made a gaming mat for the SSS game. I covered a piece of cloth in white acrylic sealant

and then I poured a mix of GW snow flock and soda all over it...

Much to my surprise when it had dried the flock fell right off.... impressive waste of money.

To say the least the bases I've made for my figures do not fit this table... they're completely white and the table is browngrey. I might end up redoing the bases though. And go for a bleaker less snowy apoc.

Next I wanted to cover the table in trees.

I went for some small and cheap fir trees supplied by Jonas. They just had to have a sprinkle of Flock I thought.

Having learned from my last flocking mistake I chose not to blend the flock this time.

An unflocked, a green flocked, SODA and GW snow.

Soda didn't work. In fact it had a weird distribution. Exponential decrease.

Also the spray glue I use makes the soda look yellow. Bad.

The GW was much better.

No yellowing. But (not visible) the cover is not very good, and the trees don't look very good compared to how they look with green flock. In essence it would be a waste to dress them up in white instead of green.

It is a shame that the mat did not come out as intended, but it does look pretty good as it is.
Maybe reworking your bases is an option, but it may feel annoying having to do it all again.
I can only sympathise, sir.
 :( :(

As for the trees: I like the way the green has turned out.

If you are looking for snow covered, I think Rob_Bresnan's trees came out well.
Why not try his method?
 ;)

The more I see of that mat, the more I like the finish.
No consolation, I know, but I bet you will find a use for it.

Edit: As it did not make sense telling you that I liked the 'more' more.....D'oh!

They do look nice, but on the cosy side of things compared to my vision of it all. I'm thinking out using some twigs from the hedge that I just cut. Making an old croney forest instead.

Hmmm....

For smooth snow i have used pure baby talc that I have then painted over and gloss varnished.  I've only got dead trees so far but I found that if I painted on undilute pva on the uppermost surfaces then the sprinkled on talc would stack there, rather than the all round effect.

For a cloth, my experiments haven't really started yet but I did pick up an off white fleece blanket from IKEA (£3) that with painting and some application of talc could provide a decent gaming surface.  As I said, my experiments with a flexible mat aren't that progressed so it might work, or might not.

In terms of painting snow, I've found that a water-based white satin for interior woodwork, gives a nice effect when sort of thickly splodged and dappled on.

Oooh!
Creepy forest look.
I like THAT idea.
