Oh I agree totally Arrigo. Focus on getting the core of their kickstarter done. And then if they meet there goals, Then maybe branch out to all the crazy that we are talking about. Don't want them to blow them self's out trying to please us all.  :)
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Well the Red Star Russians were tailored fro Grozny 2 (maybe someone missed that one in all the wars  :D well it is Caucasus we can miss one... )... that was what the guys from Red Star told me. The kit is pretty up to date compared with whom I have seen in real (opposed to nice parade ground) equipment. It fit well with the pictures form the late Ives Debay. And I will be obnoxious and picky... equipment is not depending on division, plus spetsanz uniform, again outside parade ground, tend to be a bit of mix and match.

I am, not keen in seeing Empress doing a thing that they are already selling and a cracking good product by the way. Better to see something new. I am also a bit loath of all these people 'do this, do that' without regards for economics. Let's see what the Empresses, Paul, and Keith have prepared for us and how it sells.

Grozny '2' was 1999. It has only been in the past few years have Russia attempted to practically reorganize/modernize their army, primarily as a result of the poor performance in Chechnya, and to keep up with the Chinese, Americans, Georgians etc.

And yes equipment is specific to division/role as only certain weapons (such as the already mentioned AN-94 and AEK) have been issued to specific units and won't be found across the board. Certain weapons have only been issued to Special forces, whilst others to mechanized/motor divisions. Granted practically all of them will probably have stock of the older weapons such as the AKs etc, that's a given, but that is not the case for weapons made in the past 10-20 years, as often they have a limited run of production, or are far more complicated to make, or like the AN-94 actually require a very high standard of training to use effectively and to maintain and thus can't be given to just anyone.

The actual Russian army isn't all just a cooking pot of various uniforms anymore. It used to be, but as I have already said, they have gone to great lengths recently to make everything less ragtag. Similar to what the U.K is doing, they are making the Regular force much smaller and (for them) far better trained, whilst having a vast reserve force of not so well trained troops, who will definitely be equipped with practically anything. The only 'Regular' troops that would still have the equipment the Russians were using in 1999 would be those in the back-of-beyond regions, frontier troops etc, and these will either be reorganized and re-equipped or sneakily downgraded to being reservists or paramilitaries.

I never mentioned anything about Spetznaz uniforms because its common knowledge Special forces worldwide wear whatever the hell they like BUT they have a much larger array of small arms to choose from that the Russian military has not made available to your bog standard soldier (unless you get a corrupt officer selling them of).

As a final point we are suggesting, we are not demanding this and that, and we are quite aware of the economics involved, yet the purpose of this thread was for Empress to announce the kickstarter and for us to throw ideas at them. And thus we are throwing ideas at them that are relevant to the subject at hand.  ;)

In the case of doing Ultra-Modern Russian Regulars Empress wouldn't have to do all that many figs, as they could supplement the Red star troops in the older gear.

Exactly. Just because we have minis to represent a fraction of a military doesn't mean we can't have other parts of it available.

Another slight problem is that the Red Star range are dressed for the depths of winter in the Caucasus. Might look a bit odd matching them up against figures garbed for warmer climes.

Oh I don't know, some of these tropical diseases need you to conserve a lot of body heat...  lol

Personally I quite liked the original idea of the thread, a small war in the Pacific, which to me was something new and different - exactly what Kickstarter is all about... I'm sure it could be ramped up over time, or even within the context of the kickstarter itself at high funding levels, but PLA, local militias and the 'usual suspects' is quite enough for me to be honest.

:)

That is a good point. My propesed campaign will be set in Northern europe, so the Red Star look the part, but they would certainly be a bit over dressed for a Pasific island. Or Africa.

I'm sure the Mountainous regions of Eastern Russia can pretty fricking Cold. Perhaps China might invade Russia during Winter?? lol

Plus Russia do have holdings in the Pacific and a large Navy presence  :D

But yes, totally, do them much later down the line once the actual kickstarter etc has had some success, they can be a sort of expansion as the war gets worse possibly??

Not to divert the thread any more than usual, but who? when? Are we talking Korean War?   :)

Sounds like a good idea for a Tom Clancy novel... oh wait, it was.  ;)

Without a doubt, starting small is the formula for any successful project. Which is why mine invariably fail.  :?
