Dalek Civil War!
« on: 29 April 2013, 12:07:53 PM »
Made a serious rod for my own back here, but I have said I'll put on a Dalek v Dalek game at my clubs Open Day on the 22nd June.
Thing is that I'm aiming to have over 100 Daleks on the table. I actually have 160 of the buggers.

Currently filing off mould lines then I need to base them, metal washers I think (or 2p's) then someone recommended Halfords grey primer?
Will give that a try, but the painting task is making me nervous. I'll do them quick but I want them to look half decent   :D

Going to post regular updates as I progress through this.

That is an impressive hoard and I wish you look with painting all those tiny orbs on the bodies :)

Yeah I'd forgotten about those. Adds up to almost 10,000 orbs  :o ;D

If I was faced with a horde like that, I would use a massive amount of poetic license.

They would all get a total base-coat of silver or gold followed by a wash of Devlan mud. I'd then paint the hats/belts in the required colours for the different types followed by a tiny amount of detailing... job, jobbed :)

OK so they wouldn't be authentic with thousands of little black blobs but they would suit the purpose and all the details would be picked out in the wash phase.

Add to that the fact that you won't end up stark raving mad painting all of the blobs (which at that scale is a nightmare and rarely look tidy).

Well as it's the Dalek Civil war, the Dr Who experts amongst us have assured me I can get away with one set being white/ivory with gold orbs and the other set in grey with black orbs.
There is no way I'm doing this lot in glorious techicolour  8)

Those are the latest i-Daleks you have which are red, blue, white, yellow and orange. For a civil war you need the older style Daleks to fight against them...

This is as close as I get to historical gaming, I might take a few liberties  ;)

I know nothing about Doctor Whom but it's probably generally not known (because I just made it up) that there were factions within factions as in any other Civil War.   ;)

Being lazy I would go with the  multiple colors as they exist and make a few minor paint changes then play.  But I am a historical/Fantasy/SF heretic so that would be expected...   lol

Looks like it will be a lot of work - we expect pictures of the game, please.   8)

Gracias,

Glenn

Fear not, if I manage to pull this off then trust me people will be sick of seeing the pictures   :)

Not me.  I have heard of this "Who" person but could only handle about 10 minutes of a show decades ago, so it's all new to me.  I did  see the Daleks "in action" but that was for a minute just before I hit the power button to "off."

Still, in a war game setting they might be really fun to read about in the AAR.

Gracias,

Glenn

Yep, looks very effective here:

I managed to paint 9 of them and I had orbs before my eyes  o_o still have 80+ sitting in a draw  so don't envy you.

If you can find a way maybe to highlight them so you son't have to paint each individual orb otherwise you will end up like this  ;D

Had a count up last night and I've cleaned up 57 Daleks!
Noticed quite a few broken bits on the ones I have, but they can be used for the ones to be
turned into heavy weapons Daleks.

Did I mention I'll also do some converting  ;D
