(KICKSTARTER) Modular SciFi/Space Hulk/Walkway type scenery

Found this great looking range of laser mdf scenery just started on Kickstarter, this is one of the smaller sets:



Somewhat confusing set of pledges, but gives you the option to pick up exactly the sets that suit you. Based in UK but very reasonable shipping costs (unlike the rip off shipping seen elsewhere)

Looks ideal for Space Hulk and Necromunda type games as well as Infinity.

There is just too much neat stuff out there and too little money in my hobby fund

There are several MDF based sci-fi kits out now.  I think Gamecraft Minis have some too.  The one you linked is okay - but way overkill on the cross-members.  I think some of these could do with a "less is more" approach on some of the pieces.

While I'm several projects deep, I do hope to have a run at a space game sometime, and I'd be hoping to do ships like that.

I think it depends on what you're going to use them for.  I backed the bug hunt corridors too and I believe they are better looking, but you won't be able to use them for cannon space hulk.  These look specifically designed to replicate space hulk mission tiles.

I think these could look better with a variation on the wall designs, but if 3D space hulk is what you're jonesing for, I think this would be the better choice.

The picture I posted above is only part of the set (and yes this bit is designed with that game in mind.....all missions from all box editions can be set up bar one). The rest of this set is platforms, towers, balconies, gantries rooms and such which are all interchangeable with these.



Also these are magnetized to hold together during construction/play. I see these as an advancement on the basic bug hunt type range. Taking the "best options" from those plus the plastic gantry/platform scenery and Necromunda type and creating a package that combines them all.

I think it looks great and I suspect the cross design won't matter that much after some paint.

The Kickstarter on the other hand seems to be very messy set up. I have a very hard time figuring out what pledge level to chose if I want Space Hulk set up.

It does look good but still a bit out of my price range for a decent set up of rooms and corridors. Not that it's not worth it, more that I can't afford it!

I've been sketching up a very simple modular room system that I was going to try and make out of foam pvc. Looking at this set up it could be very easily done in mdf or ply as there are only 5 wall types and 2 bases. If only I had access to a 'frickin' laser' I could guve it a try. It's almost all CADed up too. Imagine being able to knock these out at your leisure!

I didn't see a tile size on the site so I asked in the creator and the response was the that the square size is 30mm.  So old terminators work (25mm base),  but new terminators won't (40mm).

Beautiful sets.  But...that is possibly the worst KS pledge ladder ever.  I couldn't figure any of it out.

Actually new terminators will fit with a very easy method...base them on 30mm bases.

The walkways look nice enough and like how the sets use magnets instead of clips (so you may actually be able to repeatedly take your walkway system apart and rebuild it) but resultant aesthetic is a bit too specific and not to my taste.
